I got my bachelor's degree in Computer Science back in 2015 at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo. Hello all! I'm Phyllis, a web and video game programmer that's been in the coding space for over 10 years. I got my bachelor's degree in Computer Science back in 2015 at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo. During my time in school, I created some small video games and also focused in databases, namely MySQL. I combined my art skills with my programming skills to bring games to life.

Since then, I've worked in the tech industry, creating and maintaining websites for eCommerce companies like The Clymb, creating a meditation app called Balance, and overseeing the website for an anime convention called FanimeCon. After 6 years in the industry, I went into teaching, and I currently instruct students ages 7-17 through Black Girls Code (BGC). I have been teaching with BGC for about 3 years now, utilizing Zoom for our classes. I have taught students to create projects in Javascript, Python, HTML, and more!

My bachelor's degree at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo has a focus on game development, and I created several small games using the LÖVE engine, Adobe Flash, Unity, and OpenGL. After graduating, I co-created the game Bob PicRoss in Unity, reaching the top 100 games of the month on itch.io. I have since dabbled in other engines like RPGMaker MZ, Twine, and Ren'py.

I worked for an e-commerce company called Leftlane Sports for 3 years, styling websites with CSS and SASS. I currently help maintain the anime convention FanimeCon's website using CSS and PHP for over 5 years. I also use CSS for my personal art and gaming projects to create smooth animations and colorful works of art.

I have worked with Javascript for over 10 years, mainly as a front-end developer. I used it to create interactions between the user and websites as well as aiding in smooth animations with CSS. I currently use it to power sources in OBS, the open source recording and streaming software, and also to interact with Twitch, a streaming platform.

Phyllis is great at explaining coding concepts, and has guided me through all of the different functions of the Ren’py program in an easily understandable way. I had no coding experience at all, but after just a few lessons, I’m already on my way to publishing my first visual novel! 10/10!
