Hi! I’m Laura Ashe and I have 30 plus years of one-on-one and class experience teaching both English and Japanese as a second language. Hi! I’m Laura Ashe and I have 30 plus years of one-on-one and class experience teaching both English and Japanese as a second language. I have my TEFL certification and a BA in Japanese Language and Intercultural Communication from ICU in Tokyo, one of Japan’s premier bilingual language universities. I lived in Japan for many years, attending high school and college there and working for some of Japan’s major companies where I taught English, translated and consulted on Intercultural Communication. Those companies include Toshiba, Oki Electric and C. Itoh and Co. I have also been a licensed Financial Professional for 25 years in a cross border setting working for such companies as Daiwa Securities, Nippon Shinpan and Prudential. This experience helps me to significantly move my students to the next level in either English or Japanese as a second language.

Most recently, I have also been working with students newly arrived in the US from China, Korea and Japan get their English up to speed, as well as with students preparing for Japanese proficiency tests. I like to have fun in my classes and am devoted to my students’ success. I create custom classes to meet individual goals and language level. As a bilingual, I know the usual errors people make in both languages and will focus on correcting them until they are mastered. I look forward to assisting you in your journey to fluency and fully experiencing another culture and language. Kind, Patient and funny!

Laura is a fantastic tutor. She has built my lesson plan in a way that mostly comfortable for the way I learn and pushes me just a little from lesson to lesson. I've made much faster progress on Hiragana/Katakana, Vocabulary and commonly used phrases and structures that I've ever made before.

Fantastic ESL Teacher

My niece recently came to the US from Japan to learn more about US culture and to increase her knowledge on the English language. Laura has conducted several online sessions with her and has done a fantastic job. She is very thorough and thoughtful to her teaching approach. Every lesson day my niece is excited to do classes with Laura. From my experience she is a very good ESL teacher choice.
