I have spent 2 years tutoring undergraduate students in general chemistry at a range of community colleges. When I was hired, I was told explicitly that what got me in was that I actually struggled with chemistry in the past. Chemistry used to not come naturally to me, but after hours of practice I became one of the highest scorers in my classes. It took confidence in my chemistry skills to (what felt like) easily obtaining As in my upper division classes.
I want to instill that confidence in my tutees by approaching chemistry through an exciting and simplified lens that they can apply in their every day lives. I specialized in tutoring weed-out undergraduate classes like general chemistry in campus tutoring centers, and have received high praise for my top-down manner of teaching. I especially enjoy teaching the fundamentals of a subject because without the fundamentals understood, the student will never feel confident in approaching higher-level classes of that subject.
