About Steven

Bio

I have taught chemistry for 3 years at UCLA as a summer lecturer (UCLA Chem 20A) and was highly rated by my students! Over the past few years I have tutored many students in chemical engineering, materials science/engineering, calculus, linear algebra, chemistry (e.g., general, organic, inorganic, UCLA Chem 20A/B, UCSB Chem 1A/B), and physics (e.g., general, quantum, UCLA Physics 1A, UCSB 115A/B/C), and programming/data science (MATLAB, Python, R). I am skilled at breaking down material in an intuitive way for learners of all types.

I have worked at NASA, UCLA, UC Davis, Chevron, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, UCSB, and Rice University. I've applied concepts from math, chemistry, and physics to real world problems and love empowering students to do the same.

Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering

I have worked at Chevron El Segundo Refinery as a Process Operations Engineer, at NASA JPL as a solid state chemist, and am pursuing a PhD in Materials Engineering.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have quite a bit of experience in tutoring and teaching chemistry both at the high school and university general chemistry level. Specifically for AP Chemistry, I received a 5 on the exam, served as a teacher's assistant during my senior year of high school, and taught introductory chemistry for engineers at UCLA for the past 3 years as a summer course.
MATLAB

MATLAB

I use MATLAB often in my work, particularly for parsing, analyzing, and plotting data. I regularly help students work with MATLAB, I took a MATLAB course during college, and am fluent in other languages as well.
Physics

Physics

I received a 5 on the AP Physics C exam, went on to study Chemical Engineering where I received As in the college level physics series, and now am pursuing my PhD with a heavy focus on quantum and condensed matter physics.
Python

Python

Developed my own Python packages for complex data analysis, host annual Python for Researchers Workshop

Knowledgeable and helpful tutor

Steven helped with my college Materials Science class. He was great. He was able to explain everything I could not understand. He asked for my information before the session and was thoroughly prepared to help me.
