Bio

Hi, I’m an Applied Mathematics student at the University of California, Santa Barbara. My coursework includes calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, probability and statistics, numerical analysis, and proof-based mathematics. I tutor middle school, high school, and early college students in subjects ranging from algebra and precalculus to calculus, statistics, linear algebra, and differential equations. I can teach in either English or Mandarin Chinese.

My tutoring style is patient, structured, and focused on genuine understanding. Rather than asking students to simply memorize formulas, I explain where the formulas come from, how to recognize common problem types, and how to work through each problem step by step. I pay close attention to the exact point where a student becomes confused and adjust my explanation using simpler examples, visual interpretations, or a different method.

I have experience helping classmates and other students in one-on-one study settings, especially with challenging concepts, homework, and exam preparation. Before each lesson, I review the student’s goals and course materials so that our time is focused and productive. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to build the confidence and problem-solving skills they need to work independently.

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

I am a 3.8+ GPA Applied Mathematics student at UC Santa Barbara with a strong foundation in both single-variable and multivariable calculus. I tutored a college peer consistently for one academic year, helping them earn A grades in both Calculus I and Calculus II. Through this experience, I developed an effective approach to breaking down difficult concepts, identifying gaps in understanding, and explaining problems through clear, manageable steps. I can help students strengthen their conceptual understanding, improve their problem-solving skills, and prepare confidently for homework, quizzes, and exams.
Chinese

Chinese

Chinese is my native language, and I use it daily with family, friends, and other native speakers. I have an advanced command of both formal and conversational Chinese, including modern slang, internet language, idioms, cultural references, and the subtle differences between natural and textbook expressions. I am also highly knowledgeable in classical Chinese, literary allusions, traditional idioms, and Chinese history, allowing me to explain the cultural and historical background behind the language. I can help students improve their pronunciation, grammar, reading, writing, conversation skills, and ability to communicate naturally with native Chinese speakers.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I am an Applied Mathematics student at UC Santa Barbara and earned A+ grades in advanced university-level linear algebra courses. My training includes vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization, inner product spaces, spectral methods, and proof-based linear algebra. I have also applied linear algebra extensively in academic and computational projects involving matrix methods, eigenvalue problems, numerical algorithms, and data analysis. I help students understand both the calculations and the abstract ideas behind them by breaking difficult problems into clear, logical steps.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I am a 3.8+ GPA Applied Mathematics student at UC Santa Barbara with a strong record in advanced college mathematics. I tutored a college peer for a full academic year, helping them build the foundation that contributed to A grades in both Calculus I and Calculus II. I am skilled at identifying exactly where a student is struggling and explaining difficult ideas in a clear, patient, and practical way. My goal is to help students improve their grades, build confidence, and become fully prepared for calculus.
Probability

Probability

I am a 3.8+ GPA Applied Mathematics student at UC Santa Barbara with strong academic training in university-level probability. I have completed an intensive probability course sequence and regularly apply probabilistic reasoning in statistics, mathematical modeling, and data analysis. I am skilled at turning confusing problems into clear, logical steps and helping students recognize the right approach quickly. My teaching focuses on building genuine understanding, improving problem-solving accuracy, and preparing students confidently for homework and exams.
