I’m currently a Biological Sciences student at UC Santa Barbara, where I’ve built a strong foundation in both biology and organic chemistry through my coursework and lab experience. Over time, I’ve gotten comfortable working through complex topics like reaction mechanisms, metabolic pathways, and systems biology, and I’ve learned how to break those ideas down into smaller, more manageable pieces. I have recieved an A grade in every organic chemistry and every biology related course I have taken. A big part of how I study is focusing on understanding the logic behind concepts rather than memorizing them, which is something I carry into how I explain material to others.
Even though I haven’t had a formal tutoring position, I’ve spent a lot of time helping classmates work through difficult concepts, especially in chemistry and biology. When I explain things, I try to focus on the “why” behind what’s happening so it actually makes sense rather than just feeling like something to memorize. I also adjust how I explain things depending on the person, whether that’s slowing things down, walking through problems step by step, or using simpler examples to build up understanding. I tutor my peers often, and they see very positive results.
Overall, my goal as a tutor would be to make challenging material feel more approachable and help students build confidence in their ability to understand it on their own.
