Hi! My name is Calista, and I am a fourth-year Biological Sciences student at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Through my coursework in biology, chemistry, physics, and genetics, I have developed a strong academic foundation in STEM subjects as well as advanced reading comprehension and analytical skills.
I began tutoring by helping my younger siblings with their schoolwork, which inspired me to continue tutoring throughout college. As part of UCSB’s Power Hour program at Harding Elementary School, I led one-on-one reading comprehension sessions and facilitated small group lessons of 3–6 students focused on critical thinking and literacy development. This experience allowed me to work with elementary-aged students in both individualized and small classroom-style settings, adapting lessons to different learning styles and ability levels.
As both a student and tutor, I understand the importance of meeting students where they are. I focus on identifying each student’s unique learning style and use clear explanations and active learning strategies to build both understanding and confidence.
I am open to tutoring elementary through high school students in reading, writing, biology, chemistry, elementary math, algebra, and general science. My goal is to help students truly understand material rather than simply memorize it, while creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment.
