I majored in engineering, and I was a member of the dean's list for every semester during my college career. I graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.8, and my area of expertise in tutoring is in mathematics. I've been working as a professional engineer for 6 years, and have been tutoring for 4. I majored in engineering, and I was a member of the dean's list for every semester during my college career. I graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.8, and my area of expertise in tutoring is in mathematics. I've been working as a professional engineer for 6 years, and have been tutoring for 4. I have worked with students as young as 8 and adults as old as 62. Most of my tutoring has been 1-on-1 work online through various virtual platforms. Algebra, geometry and trigonometry are the subjects that I tutor in most often. Working as an engineer, as well as with my own hobbyist endeavors, these are the subjects that I typically encounter. Engaging with this material in an applied setting allows me to connect real world problems to the classroom environment.

I try to titrate my tutoring approach to accommodate the particular student. Some students are simply looking for support when they get stuck on a problem, and in that context, I typically adopt a hands-off approach and allow the student to work through the problem on their own. Other times, when students have little to no experience working with the problems they're bringing to the session, I am more proactive in teaching the material to the student.

My goal when tutoring is to assist in facilitating the student's own learning process. I like to provide suggestions and supporting examples to use as guides so that the student can work through the problems on their own. Many students have commented on this after the sessions and have expressed their appreciation for how I try to provide them with a different way of looking at a problem when the way they were initially taught did not make sense to them. I also like to connect abstract concepts to real-world examples, as this can assist with making the material more relatable. This approach has allowed my students to gain confidence and retain the knowledge they've gained.
