For over 20 years I have tutored students preparing for both the Baby Bar and the Bar Exam in California. The students who successfully complete the assigned work have had outstanding success rates on these difficult exams. During the same period, I have been a law professor, teaching over 10 legal subjects.

In addition, my degree in chemistry, my tutoring experience since college, and my work in medical research offer unique skills in these areas as well.

Learning is one of the most exciting things one can do in life, no matter what one's age, and I try to imbue each of my students with this idea. Learning is a lifelong journey to be savored.

In sum, I am a scientist, writer and teacher who practices law, and who loves both teaching and learning.

As a lawyer, I practiced criminal law at the appellate level. This involved analyzing intricate points of law in a number of cases that were raised and presented as potential precedents for future cases. My efforts resulted in at least one published opinion.

Grammar,

Grammar

Grammar skills are crucial to daily modern life. How one uses, or misuses, language can determine success or failure in interactions with others. For better or worse, we are judged on how we use language. English can seem daunting, but it needn't be. Whether it's writing or speaking, a small range of skills can go a long way to achieve success. As a published author in several subjects, I can help unravel the myriad difficulties that students face, and maybe make the process a bit fun.

Government & Politics

Government & Politics

We seem to encounter government and politics almost every day, from news stories to political ads to personal experiences. Yet, how many of us really understand the underlying interconnected history and conceptual bases for this crucial subject? I try to put all of this in a context that the student can grasp easily and intuitively. And when done, I'm sure my students have a greater appreciation of not only the concepts but also their place in this aspect of their lives.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra is the student's first trip into the realm of abstract thinking. It forms the basis for all future math courses, and for the crucial activity of analytical thinking in later life. But it doesn't have to be scary or difficult. Teaching a few fundamental principles, I try to make the subject engaging, and maybe, just a bit fun.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 continues the student's trip into the realm of abstract thinking. You encounter word problems that can make the subject more engaging and relate to everyday problems in a practical context. It, along with Algebra I, forms the basis for all future math courses, and for the crucial activity of analytical thinking in later life. It doesn't have to be scary, daunting or difficult. Teaching a few fundamental principles, I try to make the subject engaging, and maybe, just a bit fun.
Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus has gotten a rap as being incredibly difficult. Although it is a profound subject that provides invaluable tools in lots of areas of study, it is readily accessible with the right approach. Theory is good, but problem solving is the better and the ultimate skill. I can assist in making what others would like you to believe is only for elite math geeks, and in making it readily accessible to anyone willing to learn and apply a few important concepts.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

With a degree in chemistry, and a lot of years involved in the teaching of the subject, I can make the task of learning a lot simpler and even fun and stimulating. I can show you how it is not just a matter of boring memorization, but rather seeing a bigger picture, so that concepts once learned can be applied in ways that you might not otherwise think are connected. And that is when learning becomes exciting.

Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

The thought of taking algebra frightens many students. While it is true that algebra is a new and unfamiliar subject, the steps leading to it are not that scary. I hope to prove this to you. My goal is to simplify the subject of prealgebra. Thus, less memorization, more learning. Let me show you how you can learn more while spending less time and effort in the process. In fact, a lot of the learning process includes things that you probably already know! You probably already have an intuitive feeling for the subject; you just don't realize it. Allow me to show you. And the amazing thing about this process is that it can be applied to a lot of subjects, both mathematical and otherwise. Teachers often do not try to make the LEARNING process easier than it can be. This is one of my aims. Allow me to make your math life simpler.

The SAT seems to instill a fear in students. It influences their future. It affects their choice of colleges. Yet, it actually is quite approachable. My approach is thus geared toward lowering the anxiety level that students have but needn't have. My students already typically have the skills needed to do well. I try to maximize those skills while reducing the amount of memorization needed.

Intelligent and engaging Tutor

David helped my daughter study for her Astronomy final at UCLA. He was very patient and knowledgeable about the subject and spent time preparing for the lesson.

This tutor knows his stuff

If you want someone who knows every detail of the law, this is the guy. He gives you some lecture type lessons at first with tips and tricks, and then focuses on actual work. You won't miss the details and are going to feel very challenged to know the material!

Down to earth and very generous in teaching

He is a great source for California bar prep course. He is straight forward and didn't like to waste time chit chatting with me. He is very generous in sharing the techniques and strategies tackling one of the most challenging exams. See no more, David is your only hope

Patient and knowledgable

David has tutored one of my sons in chemistry and the other in algebra. His tutoring style is very approachable for kids and they both found him extremely helpful as well as patient.

Competent but Interminable

The tutoring session with this tutor are more like lectures, long-drawn-out but sincere. An overwhelming concern for me was the number of times I had to request an agenda before our scheduled meetings. I do not feel value was returned for money spent. The sessions I purchased could have been more productive if the tutor had: (1) prepared an agenda in advance of each meeting; (2) communicated a clear strategy for providing feedback to homework assignments; (3) contacted the student to clarify misunderstandings so both parties can use the time in a productive fashion; (4) been more engaging with the student. And the sessions I purchased could have been more productive if I had asked for references from prior students rather than relying upon those provided by their parent's on this site.

Great for Law School!

I wish I would have found David my first week of law school. I reached out to him because I knew that I needed help in Criminal Procedure. I felt extremely lost and had no idea where to start my essays. The first day we met I learned a ton about how to approach exams in general. My school's academic success counselor had told us some of the same stuff, but David's approach was much more comprehensive. I went home and immediately starting using his principles. He also sent me home with some practice tests to do on the subject. I emailed them the night before our next meeting. The next day we walked through step by step what I did right and wrong. We then walked through the fact pattern itself and discussed how it influenced each of the concepts we were learning in class. I originally intended to only use David for the subject. That completely changed. I am now using him for my remaining finals, and have incorporated his services into my next year of law school and bar prep. It's fair to say that I don't know if David would work for everyone. He gives mini lectures during the sessions. He lets you ask questions (but I feel bad interrupting) but he answers a lot of them before you can even ask. I suggest giving him a try!

Great tutor! my kids said it's easy to understand the lesson!

During this past 2 years my son Ricardo now at UCLA and my son Jesse had great time during tutoring with David. He has been an excellent tutor for my kids now he is tutoring with my daughter Grace. We are thankful because he has patience and easy to understand and great for our wallet!

Easy to understand and work with.

I had not taken chemistry before so the fast pace of the summer class made it difficult to understand. David helped me prepare for summer school first semester chemistry final.
