My academic background includes a 5 on AP Calculus AB and a 4 on AP Physics 1, and I have maintained A’s in advanced coursework including AP Calculus BC, AP Physics 2, JavaScript, and Python through Glendale Community College.

My tutoring began in 2022, when I worked in person with middle school students in Glendale, many of whom were English-language learners. In addition, I worked on the FIRST Robotics team at La Cañada, where I gained both competitive and collaborative engineering experience.

My approach is structured but flexible. I first give students the opportunity to engage with the material and attempt problems independently. When they get stuck, I step in with guided support, helping them recognize patterns, build confidence, and understand the reasoning behind each step. My goal is not just to improve grades, but to help students become stronger, more independent problem-solvers.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I am currently a senior at Glendale High School with a strong passion and foundation in mathematics, physics, and computer science. My coursework and scores have included a score of 5 on AP Calculus AB and a 4 on AP Physics 1. I am currently enrolled in AP Calculus BC and AP Physics 2, where I have maintained an A throughout the semester in both classes. I am also a student at Glendale Community College, where I have taken three years of Glendale Community College classes in advanced JavaScript and Python, and have earned an A in all courses. My formal tutoring journey began in 2022 when I took an in-person job at a local middle school in Glendale, where many of the sixth- to eighth-grade students were English-language learners. I am now very familiar with working with students with language barriers, and I learned how to connect new terms to concepts they already knew. I am also familiar with adapting my tutoring to fit specific students’ needs or areas, and I do not use one set approach for all students, as some grasp concepts more quickly in certain areas than others. Although I do follow a general guide while tutoring, my approach to teaching any student is to let them be exposed to the material initially and attempt the problems themselves. If I see that a student is lost, I step in to see if we can work through the problems together, allowing the student to recognize patterns as I model the process. I am always present to support my students, but I want them to experience the “aha” moment themselves. A major part of my tutoring philosophy is providing tailored lessons and helping students not only improve their grades but also enjoy problem-solving along the way.

I have also worked with an advanced student and have also privately tutored math online one-on-one for one year. This student was ahead of the class curriculum and needed more challenging work. I was able to provide her with pre-calculus problems and effectively teach her the concepts and ideas she would later encounter in a pre-calculus course
Calculus

Calculus

I’m a senior at Glendale High School with a strong STEM background in math, physics, and computer science. I earned a 5 on AP Calculus AB and a 4 on AP Physics 1, and I’m currently enrolled in AP Calculus BC and AP Physics 2 with strong performance this semester. For Algebra 1, I've done extensive work in algebra tutoring for the past 5 years. I scored a 770 on the math section of the SAT, a test based on algebra 1 and 2. My goal is to make the material feel organized and predictable: we identify the exact point of confusion, build a repeatable method (not memorized tricks), and practice until the student can solve problems independently and confidently. I focus on both grade improvement and helping students feel capable with math. My formal tutoring journey began in 2022 when I took an in-person job at a local middle school in Glendale, where many of the sixth- to eighth-grade students studying algebra were English-language learners. Robotics

Robotics

I am an undergraduate studying Aerospace Engineering at UC Berkeley with extensive hands-on experience in robotics through engineering projects, team leadership, and independent builds. As co-president of the MESA Club, I led robotics projects and organized engineering competitions, guiding students through mechanical design, electronics, and structured problem-solving. My technical background includes DC electronic circuits, CAD modeling, and programming in Python, C++, and JavaScript, along with practical fabrication using 3D printing. I have also built and tested low-powered rockets, giving me additional experience in systems integration, propulsion fundamentals, and iterative design. In addition, I worked on the FIRST Robotics team at La Cañada, where I gained both competitive and collaborative engineering experience. This combination of academic training and real-world application allows me to teach robotics from a systems perspective—helping students understand how hardware, software, and mechanics interact, rather than relying on pre-built solutions.

Great Robotics Tutor

Joshua was terrific. He was patient, clear, and highly knowledgeable, and he quickly built a strong rapport with my son. He took the time to understand exactly where my son was struggling and explained concepts in a way that finally made things click. What stood out most was his ability to break down complex material into manageable steps while keeping my son engaged and confident throughout the session. My son left feeling encouraged and much more comfortable with the subject. I would absolutely recommend Joshua to anyone looking for a thoughtful, effective, and reliable tutor. We will definitely be booking more sessions.
