Hi, I'm Ariette! Since I was little, I've always had a love for books and novels. At the time, books were my number one teacher for learning English. Through them, I went from ELD, to being placed into Honors and AP English classes, and eventually graduating from University of California, San Diego with a BA in Literature English!

My first informal tutoring experiences were with my siblings and eventually my fellow classmates who sought my writing skills in our own middle school and high school courses. These experiences, along with my proficiency, opened up a job opportunity during my time in college as an official tutor and mentor in the Analytical Writing Program (AWP). In AWP, I was in charge of tutoring each student through one-on-one sessions tailored to their needs. Our goal was for everyone to meet the UC Entry Level Writing Requirement (ELWR) by the end of the year. The ELWR is necessary for any UC student to continue their studies. Through this opportunity, I was able to meet and collaborate with brilliant teachers and students!

Despite being different stages in my life, one aspect of tutoring that I always loved was seeing my students "get it": the look of clarity in their eyes when they're reading the long and heavy article a class gave them, that renewed vigor in typing or writing when a brilliant idea pops up in their head, even the small "Oh" they mumble when something that seemed complex becomes simplified. I believe all students have the potential to succeed when given the resources. My job as a tutor is giving them that small push, a reminder, or example to show them how.
