Hi there! I am interested in and have experience tutoring students of all ages in both French and in writing (English).
In terms of my experience with French, I lived and worked in Paris for a year as an au pair for young French-speaking children (ages 5-10), to whom I taught English. In high school, I was a peer tutor in French and received a 5 on my AP French exam. In college, I continued peer tutoring in French, and graduated with Honors with a BA in French (and Linguistics). For my French major, I wrote an 87-page French language thesis.
Throughout my undergrad experience, I also worked in my college's Writing Center as a peer tutor for all kinds of writing, including essays, senior theses, and fellowship applications. This included working with my fellow college students to improve their understanding of everything from grammar and punctuation to crafting a college-level thesis and argument. Writing - and writing well - is so important to me, and I am excited to help share that with potential tutees.
My approach to tutoring is collaborative. Rather than dictating lessons to students, I prefer to take a more conversational tack, working with the student to discover what motivates and interests them, and what may be challenging or confusing. In this way, the student gains a more well-rounded, complete understanding of the subject material, rather than just surface level memorization - the "why" of it all, in addition to the "what."
