Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have worked with dozens of children with autism in the realm of social and organizational skills in the foster care and public school system. I am also experienced in managing behavioral disorders that are related to moderate to severe autism. I also have experience working with communicative devices such as PECS and GoTalk to help facilitate communication with an autistic person and their conversation partner.

Bible Studies

I have a Master's of Divinity from the American Baptist Seminary of the West. I have engaged in and led biblical studies formally and informally for more than 10 years. I have a working knowledge of Koine Greek and ancient Hebrew.

Czech

I am fluent in Czech and have lived there for more than 4 years. I can both read and write the language fluently. My family is Czech and I am familiar with the culture as well.

Dyslexia

I have a Master's in Communicative Disorders and the study of dyslexia and academic support for this disorder was a part of my program. I have worked formally and informally with many students with dyslexia in relation to other communicative disorders and/or academic support. I am comfortable incorporating these skills in conjunction with helping a student achieve their academic goals.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified to teach in the California public school system. I have worked with special needs children in elementary school with communicative disorders. I have also formally and informally helped elementary students with organizational, behavioral and academic skills that help prepare them for junior high and high school.

Guitar

I have played acoustic and electric guitar for over 20 years. I have recorded my own compositions and played them in live settings, i.e. clubs and cafes. I have several years of teaching guitar playing, composition and voice.

Hard of Hearing

I have a Master's in Communicative Disorders and have helped several HOH students utilize compensatory practices to listen and "hone" in on what is being said to them. Some of these practices include differentiating and localizing between various sound productions. Other strategies include forms of sign language to communicate.

Phonics

I have a Master's in Communicative Disorders and have worked with dozens of elementary students gaining phonemic awareness. These sessions included games, puzzles and activities in putting together and taking apart word structures. Helpful apps that I use for teaching phonics include Simplex Spelling and Hairy Letters.

Special Needs

I have a Master's degree in Communicative Disorders from SF State and have worked with special needs teenagers and foster care for more than 10 years. They had a range of diagnoses from severe autism, asberger's, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury and various learning disabilities. I supported these children in regards to communication through devices, various social skills, behavioral skills and organizational skills to help them succeed in life.

Study Skills

I have received training in language and organizational skills with a Master's in Speech Pathology that helps students to gain an overall understanding of good study habits. I have informally gained skills regarding Linda Mood Bell tutoring strategies from a colleague. I have implemented these techniques to dozens of students to help them succeed in academic standardazid tests as well as the classroom setting.
