Following an explanation and working something out on your own can feel very different. I'm Carlos, and I want our lessons to help you get more comfortable with both. We'll talk through how you're approaching the material, find where things stop making sense and work from there.
I've tutored math for children and preteens through The Community College Foundation and taught two 15-week JavaScript courses at CodeTalk through St. Joseph Center. Teaching programming meant making unfamiliar ideas approachable through explanations, guided examples and group practice. I also worked as a teaching assistant at General Assembly, helping students work through their projects.
For elementary and middle school students, I offer elementary math support and study skills. We'll work through examples together and talk about why each step works, then give you a chance to try a similar problem yourself. If getting started or keeping track of assignments is the challenge, we'll break the work into smaller steps and make a manageable plan. The goal is to help you understand the work and feel more comfortable tackling it independently.
For college students and adults, I offer introductory social and cultural anthropology. I hold a bachelor's degree in anthropology and work as a user researcher. My field research has included learning from Michigan residents and caseworkers to help improve the state's public benefits application. I can help you connect concepts to everyday life, work through readings and develop research questions. Across subjects, there's room to ask questions, try an idea and work at a pace that helps it make sense.
