Bio

Hi, I’m Jess! I’m a graduating Computer Science major at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and I will be starting my M.S. in Computer Science this fall. I tutor students in computer science, math, and SAT preparation, with experience working with both high school and college students. Hi, I’m Jess! I’m a graduating Computer Science major at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and I will be starting my M.S. in Computer Science this fall. I tutor students in computer science, math, and SAT preparation, with experience working with both high school and college students. I earned a 1590 on the SAT, maintained a 4.0 GPA, and earned credit for 17+ AP courses, including AP Calculus AB/BC and AP English Language/Literature. Because I have gone through these subjects as a student at a high level, I understand both the content and the pressure students can feel when preparing for difficult courses, exams, or assignments.

My tutoring approach is patient, structured, and focused on helping students understand the reasoning behind each concept rather than simply memorizing steps. I have been a teaching assistant for four computer science courses over the past two and a half years, where I helped students work through dense programming labs, debugging challenges, and conceptual material. In a typical session, I first try to understand how the student is thinking through the problem, then I help identify any gaps and break the topic into smaller, more concrete pieces. Whether we are working on Algebra I, calculus, programming fundamentals, data structures, or SAT strategies, my goal is to help students build confidence and become more independent problem-solvers.

I also have 2.5 years of tutoring experience at the college level and 1 year of tutoring experience at the high school level with Elk Grove Unified School District. At EGUSD, I worked one-on-one with a newcomer student from Mexico who spoke only Spanish, helping him learn Algebra I concepts in a supportive and accessible way. That experience taught me how important it is to adapt to each student’s background, learning style, and comfort level. I welcome any context from students or parents about goals, current challenges, class expectations, or preferred learning styles so I can tailor each session to what will be most helpful.

Approved Subjects

ACT English

ACT English

I earned a 36 ACT composite score (and a 1590 on the SAT). I've tutored EGUSD students privately on both English sections for the ACT with a joint tutoring contract program with the EGUSD district. Working with students with their particular weaknesses has been, nonetheless, insightful -- and that said, I am readily available to create comprehensive prep plans for students (primarily done through Google Spreadsheets). Lastly, I am also affiliated with The Princeton Review and Tutor.com as an SAT and ACT tutor, having completed all practice tests contained in the 2026 ACT Premium Prep book.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I'm a Computer Science graduate at Cal Poly SLO (4.0 GPA, entering the MS program in Fall 2026), with real-world software engineering experience as a Software Engineer Intern at Amazon, plus SWE internships at CloudGo.ai and Kaiser Permanente. I bring over a year of teaching experience as a TA for Systems Programming, Databases (MySQL), and Computer Organization, along with mentoring students as CTF Lead for Cal Poly's Security Club. I specialize in breaking down core CS concepts: Python, C, data structures, algorithms, and databases. As computer science grows as an evolving and competitive field, I aim to help students prepare for interviews, practice coding, and adapt my teaching style to each student's pace and background.
Data Structures

Data Structures

I've solved over 500 LeetCode problems focused on data structures: arrays, linked lists, stacks, queues, trees, heaps, hash tables, and graphs. Further, as a TA for Systems Programming and Databases at Cal Poly, I help students build real intuition for how these structures work in memory and why one is a better fit than another for a given problem, along with breaking down time and space complexity (Big-O). I also apply data structures in real systems: from a GeoPandas-based GIS agent I built that indexes over a million geospatial points in under a second, to backend work during my Amazon internship--so I can connect what you're learning to how it's actually used outside the classroom. Whether you're prepping for technical interviews, working through a CS course, or just trying to get comfortable with the fundamentals, I focus on building problem-solving instincts primarily.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

I earned a 1590 on the SAT (36 ACT composite) and have tutored EGUSD students privately on English/Reading sections for both the SAT and ACT through a joint tutoring contract with the district. I'm also affiliated with The Princeton Review and Tutor.com as an SAT/ACT tutor, and I build comprehensive, individualized prep plans tailored to each student's specific weak points, primarily through Google Spreadsheets. My approach starts with identifying exactly where a student is losing points: pacing, inference questions, vocabulary in context, etc., so we can target practice where it matters most rather than reviewing everything generically.
