Hello, I'm Marketta! I have 10+ years of experience teaching across multiple subjects, primarily in the life sciences. I'm highly qualified in teaching students at all levels, yet I do my best to relate the challenging landscape my high school- and university-level clients navigate. I'm patient in my work, creating a welcoming, non-judgmental environment. I make each session a collaborative effort. We cater to your unique learning style, and decide what your goals are for that session. I aim to make the tutoring experience as enjoyable as possible and I highly value open communication so that I can learn how best to support you or your child during our lessons together.

Your Choice of Me as Your Tutor
In addition to tutoring, I'm also passionate about career mentorship in the life sciences. I'm a mentor through Polygence.org where I guide high schoolers how to conduct their own research project. I have 10+ years experience working across several laboratories, where I often relate real world applications to my students. It's my mission to help students succeed in the classroom, on AP exams, with college admissions, navigate internships and capstone honors thesis projects. We strategize what you want out of your educational experience for the longevity of your academic success.

Background, Credentials, & Experience
I attended Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University. I underwent a rigorous curriculum of biology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, cellular biology, developmental biology, evolution, chemistry, and physics, created a student-run organization for biological science majors, and wrote my honors thesis dissertation. I worked with professors, sparking a collaboration between them and the researchers at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) in downtown Phoenix. I was accepted to the Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program at the University of California, Irvine, where I earned my Masters of Science in Molecular Neuroscience and PhD in Neurobiology & Behavior.

Marketta is a knowledgeable tutor

Marketta is an outstanding tutor. I am a medical student, and I was struggling with Molecular Biology as medical school is very fast paced and there is a lot of material to cover in such little time. I am glad that I reached out to her through Wyzant because she has extensive knowledge in Molecular Biology. She was able to answer any question I had and explain it in a thorough, concise, and clear way. She also asked me some questions based on the material we reviewed to make sure I really understood the concept. Then she would correct anything I explained wrong or add any extra information that I left out. This was beneficial as I was able to recall what we discussed while I was taking the exam which helped increase my exam grades. I am very pleased with her tutoring as I was originally doing poorly in this subject. I would recommend her tutoring services to anyone who really wants to develop an understanding in Molecular Biology.

Knowledgable Tutor

Marketta helped me walk through the processes of gene expression in a way that worked around my existing knowledge. I love how she asks questions as I talked through them so I could really comprehend why each step occurred and how it happened. I would recommend her to anyone looking for extra help in a biology course!
