Hi, I'm Sam! I have a B.A. in Psychology from Cal State Fullerton (Cum Laude, 3.74 GPA) and spent four years in a university research lab where I mentored newer members, presented at academic conferences, and completed a course in Teaching of Psychology. I also hold a CompTIA A+ IT certification and speak conversational Spanish (B2).

If your student is feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated with their coursework, I can help. I have experience providing individualized one-on-one instruction to young learners, assessing needs, adapting my approach in real time, and keeping parents in the loop on what's working. My approach is to start each session by understanding where a student is struggling, then work through the material together using examples and connections that key upon the individual's learning style and interests. I adjust pace and method based on what clicks.

I tutor psychology (all levels through college, including AP), English composition and writing, study skills, and do executive function coaching. I'm warm, reliable, and deeply energized by helping someone reach a moment of understanding.

Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a first session. I respond quickly and am always happy to discuss your student's needs before we begin. Ideas are stars. Let's find some constellations together!

Approved Subjects

ACT English

ACT English

I graduated Cum Laude from Cal State Fullerton and have extensive experience with grammar, usage, and rhetorical structure through years of academic writing, professional ad copy, and editing game text for clarity and consistency. The ACT English section tests exactly the kind of skills I use constantly: identifying errors, improving sentence structure, and evaluating how writing choices affect tone and meaning. I help students build familiarity with the question patterns so they can work quickly and confidently on test day.
ACT Reading

ACT Reading

I spent four years in a university research lab reading, analyzing, and critiquing dense academic literature across psychology, biology, and social science. That experience made me very fast at identifying main ideas, evaluating arguments, and pulling specific evidence from complex texts, which is exactly what the ACT Reading section demands. I help students develop active reading strategies, learn to manage their time across passages, and build comfort with the question types they'll encounter on test day.
ADHD

ADHD

I spent over a year as a Behavioral Technician providing individualized one-on-one instruction to young clients, adapting my methods to each learner's specific needs and tracking measurable progress. These clients had been diagnosed with ADHD and other learning disabilities. My B.A. in Psychology included coursework in cognitive psychology, abnormal psychology, and behavioral science. I specialize in helping students with ADHD build practical strategies for focus, organization, time management, and task initiation. My approach is patient, structured, and focused on building habits that work for each individual.
Computer Gaming

Computer Gaming

I worked as a Game Designer at CCG Lab Inc., where I designed single-player narrative content for DC Dual Force, a live-service digital card game. My responsibilities included concept development, documentation, iterative playtesting, and collaborating with artists, developers, and audio designers. I can help students interested in game design fundamentals, design documentation, narrative design, and understanding the relationship between mechanics and player experience. Note: my focus is game design and theory, not programming or game engine instruction.
English

English

I have years of writing experience across academic, professional, and creative contexts, from research papers and conference presentations to advertising copy and game narrative. As a Research Assistant I drafted proposals, literature reviews, and data analyses over four years. I also completed a course in Teaching of Psychology, which gave me hands-on experience in instructional methods and clear communication of complex ideas. I can help with English coursework from middle school through college, including reading comprehension, essay structure, thesis development, argumentation, revision, and building confidence as a writer.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

I spent over a year providing one-on-one instruction to young learners, creating individualized plans, tracking progress, and adapting my strategies based on each client's needs. My psychology education gives me a research-informed understanding of how attention, working memory, and self-regulation develop. I help students build practical systems for planning, prioritization, task initiation, time management, and organization. I especially enjoy working with students who feel overwhelmed and need someone to help them break big tasks into manageable steps.
Information Technology

Information Technology

I hold a CompTIA A+ certification and have been building, troubleshooting, and maintaining computer systems since 2014. My hands-on experience includes desktop and laptop assembly, Windows/Mac/Linux troubleshooting, home networking, custom router firmware, and Raspberry Pi projects. I can help students preparing for the CompTIA A+ exam, working through IT coursework, or simply trying to build confidence with computer basics and digital literacy. I explain technical concepts in plain language and focus on practical understanding over memorization.
Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows

I hold a CompTIA A+ certification and have been working with Windows systems since childhood, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, driver management, and performance optimization. I manage my own multi-device home network and regularly help friends and family resolve Windows issues remotely and in person. I can help students with Windows coursework, basic digital literacy, file management, system settings, and everyday troubleshooting. I explain things in plain English without using overcomplicated technical language.
Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word

I have used Microsoft Word extensively in every professional role I've held, from formatting research papers and academic documents to creating design documentation and professional reports. I'm experienced with formatting, styles, headers, tables, track changes, templates, and mail merge. I can help students or professionals who need to learn Word for coursework, certifications, or workplace tasks. I focus on practical skills and shortcuts that make your workflow faster and your documents look polished.
Psychology

Psychology

I spent over a year as a Behavioral Technician providing individualized one-on-one instruction to young clients, adapting my methods to each learner's specific needs and tracking measurable progress. My B.A. in Psychology included coursework in cognitive psychology, abnormal psychology, and behavioral science. I specialize in helping students with ADHD build practical strategies for focus, organization, time management, and task initiation. My approach is patient, structured, and focused on building habits that work for each individual.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

My four years in a research lab required constant close reading of scientific and social science literature, training me to quickly identify central arguments, evaluate evidence, and understand how authors structure their reasoning. These are the core skills the SAT Reading section tests. I help students develop passage-reading strategies, build comfort with evidence-based question formats, and learn to manage their pacing so they're not rushing at the end.
SAT Writing

SAT Writing

I have years of experience writing and editing across academic, professional, and creative contexts, giving me a strong intuitive command of grammar, usage, and effective expression. The SAT Writing section tests a student's ability to spot errors and improve passages, which is exactly the kind of editing work I've done with research papers, ad copy, and game text. I help students recognize the most common error patterns the SAT tests, build efficient strategies for the passage-based format, and develop confidence in their own editorial instincts.
Sociology

Sociology

I earned a B.A. in Psychology from Cal State Fullerton with a 3.74 GPA, studying extensively across the social sciences including social psychology, personality theory, and cross-cultural perspectives. I spent four years in a research lab where I designed studies, analyzed data, and presented findings on human social behavior at academic conferences. I can help with introductory sociology, social psychology overlap topics, and research methods. My approach emphasizes connecting sociological concepts to real-world examples that make the material stick.
Writing

Writing

I have written extensively across multiple contexts: research proposals and literature reviews in a university lab, persuasive ad copy for multimillion-dollar accounts, narrative content for a published video game, and technical documentation using tools like Confluence and Jira. I help students at any level with essay structure, thesis development, argumentation, revision, tone, and finding their own voice. Whether you're working on a school essay, a college application, or a research paper, I focus on building skills you'll use long after our sessions end.
