My name is Steven. My highest level of education was obtained at Loyola Marymount University where I earned a Masters of Arts in English and World Literature; I graduated Summa Cum Laude. It was during my undergrad work at San Francisco State where I realized that I was most passionate about literature and writing. There were teachers that stood out as being passionate in their subjects—this was and is infectious. Those teachers helped push me forward in my education and life as a writer. I will impart this level of enthusiasm to students. This is what makes a subject come alive.
As a tutor, I help to prepare my students so well that they forget the pressure that often accompanies tests such as the APs, SATs, ACTs, and the GRE. I accomplish this by helping students find their voice in essays, prepare for general tests and study in AP subjects.
I have 4+ years of tutoring experience both at LMU and online.
As a grad assistant at LMU, I helped to set up a program where I tutored students from historically marginalized communities. I often tutored students who were looking to attend college (undergraduate and graduate); this was done on campus where I would provide 1 on 1 test-prep for the SATs, ACTs, and the GRE. During this time, I gained experience tutoring across a wide-range of age-groups.
I have also helped many students, either 1 on 1 or online, find their unique voices in their writing. I do this by editing and asking questions and learning about the student as I help them begin to write; these papers, especially in the age of AI, stand out because there is within them a human voice. I think as we move forward into this brave new world, that this is the most important thing that I can offer to any of my students.
I will always be quick to respond and will deal with any questions (from parents or students) regarding tests and essays. I specialize in English, Literature, test-taking strategies, and writing. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
