Hi my name is Richard, and I am a California State university of Fullerton Grad. At CSUF I received my bachelors in Child and Adolescent Studies, and then I completed the credential program. I am a credentialed teacher with 10+ years of tutoring experience. My involvement began when I started tutoring elementary students for the college preparatory program AVID. During college I continued to volunteer in classrooms of 1st, 4th, and 6th graders. My passion for tutoring and learning developed into a career of teaching. I have taught a traditional 3rd grade multiple subjects classroom, but now teach the Spanish portion of a 3rd Dual immersion program.

I taught 3rd grade for multiple years, and now transitioned into a two way dual immersion program. I can also support bilingual students who are learning Spanish, including reading, writing, and speaking. I am equipped to tutor all students K-8 in elementary English and Spanish language arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. Within my classroom I have worked in small group settings, pairs, and the whole class which demands fluidity and adaptability. I have a student centered approach, and my forms of teaching will be tailored to each individual student. In order to keep engagement high I focus on the students' specific learning needs and interests.

When I taught 3rd graders I developed experience conducting assessments routinely to guide instruction. I use pre assessments to determine my approach, find the students specific learning needs, and plan my instruction. When I teach I make sure the students are actively participating and keep engagement high. I am also patient for students of all abilities and committed to helping students understand the material and be successful.

Knowledgeable and Respectful

Richard is teaching my 2nd grader how to read. It's discouraging how little the school attempts to help students at a lower level learn to read. I took the initiative as a parent to get him a tutor. Thanks to a one hour lesson with Richard, my son shown more initiative to want to learn how to read. Richard is a nice guy, respectful and very patient. I recommend him as a tutor.
