I love learning. But more than that, I love helping others learn. This is why I returned last fall to Fresno from D.C.: so that I could pursue both my Multiple Subject Credential and Single Subject English credential at Fresno Pacific University. I am also planning to obtain the masters in education. Previously, I graduated University High School, Fresno. I then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from Thomas Aquinas College, a Masters of Arts in Theology from Ave Maria University, and ultimately worked in Washington D.C. as both a journalist and marketing associate. But that's enough about me. How can I help you?
As a former editorial assistant for a paper in D.C., as well as a former graduate copy editor, I can start off by helping with your essays. Not just fixing them, but teaching you the principles of good writing. I don't want to give you answers; I want to help you become independently successful in your studies.
I am able to tutor English, History, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Writing from a preschool level up to graduate school work. This includes the AP Language, Lit, US History, Comparative Government, and US Government tests which I personally recieved 4s and 5s on. I can tutor Latin up to an undergraduate level. I can tutor math up through PreCalculus and Trig. I am also available college admissions applications and essays editing and help.
I want to help you or your child discover how wonderful the life of study can be, and if not that, at least help you get to the point where you no longer need me to succeed. I think the goal of every teacher should be to become unnecessary to their students, because those students are able to excel on their own. I have personally tutored many students ages 3-23, and I would like to help you. I currently tutor at Fresno Pacific University as well, so I have the benefit of the education and training they offer. Send me an email and let's see how I can help you excel. I love learning. But more than that, I love helping others learn. I am willing to negotiate prices in certain cases. I also will charge different rates for group, regular sessions (a discounted rate depending on length of engagement), and basic copy editing jobs.
Marina was helpful and extremely knowledgeable. She is a pleasure to work with, her style of teaching assists the learner to capture the information correctly.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken Algebra 1 and 2 in high school, and in college I took them in a highly theory focused work, which allowed me to understand not only how to solve problems, but the larger theory of what algebra is as a mathematical tool. I am also currently in the teaching credential program at FPU, so I am able to communicate the information in a variety of ways that best help the student.
I attended the Great Books School for undergrad, Thomas Aquinas College, where I obtained a degree in Liberal Arts. While there, we read extensively from Aristotle, Plato, Cicero, Homer, Virgil, Dante, Thucydides, Herodetus, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Plutarch, Arisophanes, Livy, Tacitus, Augustine, Boethiusm, etc. I am fluent in Latin, having studied it for twelve years.
I am in training for the Multiple Subject Credential, and have experience tutoring both prealgebra and algebra I and II. I have 9 years of tutoring experience and one year of teaching Science and History.
I have a Master's Degree from Ave Maria University in Theology, wherein I studied Biblical Studies. I have also taught 6 years of religious education. I have taken eight undergraduate semesters of theology, which breaks down to 24 units of theology. I have also studied other religions including Judaism, Buddhism, and Eastern Orthodox religions extensively both privately and through MOOCs.
I am an experienced tutor who is currently working towards my Multiple Subject Credential and my Single Subject Credential in English. Besides having covered study skills in my credentialing program, I have helped previous students learn study skills. I was also a research assistant for Dr. Steven Long at Ave Maria University, where I helped students in his courses work on their study skills at a college level.
