About Randall

Bio

I hold a Master of Science in Geology and have taught undergraduate geology lab courses as a graduate teaching assistant, managing full sections of 28–30 students and often teaching up to three lab classes per semester. These courses emphasized hands-on learning in topics such as earth systems, rock and mineral identification, and environmental processes. My teaching approach focuses on clarity, patience, and fostering genuine understanding rather than memorization.

Outside the classroom, I’ve provided one-on-one tutoring in mathematics through Calculus II, as well as Algebra, Trigonometry, and Precalculus. I also supported high school students in a college bridge program. My tutoring emphasizes identifying conceptual gaps, building confidence, and adapting explanations to individual learning styles.

In addition to my teaching background, I bring a strong foundation in environmental science, with research experience in paleoclimatology and a graduate thesis focused on lead contamination in urban soils. This allows me to provide context-rich instruction in Earth and Environmental Science, grounded in both academic theory and real-world application.

Earth Science

Earth Science

I hold a Master of Science in Geology and have a strong interdisciplinary background in Earth and Environmental Science. My academic work includes paleoclimatology research as a graduate research assistant and a master’s thesis focused on lead contamination in urban soils. I have taught large introductory Earth Science labs at the college level, covering meteorology, oceanography, and geologic processes. My approach emphasizes clarity, curiosity, and making complex Earth systems accessible to students of all levels.
Environmental Science

Environmental Science

I hold a Master of Science in Geology with a strong foundation in environmental science and am certified through the UC Climate Stewards program. My graduate research focused on lead contamination in urban soils, and I previously contributed to paleoclimate research involving climate change indicators in marine sediments. I’ve served as a Climate Resilience Fellow with the California Climate Action Corps, where I led sustainability education and environmental outreach efforts. I’ve also taught environmental science labs at the college level and enjoy helping students connect complex topics to real-world applications.
Writing

Writing

I hold a Master of Science in Geology and have completed multiple college-level English and scientific writing courses. My academic background has given me strong experience with analytical writing, structured argumentation, and source-based composition in APA and MLA formats. I also specialize in scientific writing, which requires clarity, precision, and adherence to discipline-specific standards. I enjoy helping students build confidence in their writing and develop their own academic voice.
