I belong to a family of teachers - my mother, my aunts and uncles were all teachers and professors in Colleges and Universities. Raised in this background, I had a natural passion for teaching. My father had a transferable jobs so we moved from one city to another. In this process I got exposed to people from different cultural backgrounds and learnt a lot about their cultures, language, food etc. I love to mingle between people of varied cultural groups.
After my PhD in Microbiology, I got the job of a scientist in a reputed research laboratory in India where I was exposed to extensive lab work and presentation of data at symposia and conferences. It was during one such meeting that a Principal of the Institute of Engineering and Technology offered me an invitation to deliver lectures in Biotechnology to his students. I instantly accepted this tenured offer. I soon became a popular teacher and took pride in this profession.
I strongly believe that teachers must generate curiosity and passion about a subject area to motivate the students to grasp the subject with ease. I have worked in the Biotechnology industry in the Bay area for 8 years.
BS in Botany Zoology and Chemistry
MS in Microbiology
PhD Microbiology
In my opinion, the teacher must have a vision of the goals to be met, have adequate skills, and be able to build a relationship between the teacher and the student. The teacher should be current in her/his knowledge and be able to cite examples relevant to the literature and maintain the process of mutual feedback. In summary, I enjoy teaching and love to read new findings from journals and websites to keep my students well informed ,confident and will help them achieve their career goals.
