Hi! I’m Alex, and my goal as a young tutor is to patiently and effectively support other students' academics. I want to become the help I wish I had recieved throughout my primary schooling.

I've learned to work through common challenges student face as I took 14 AP exams, earning a score of 5 on all of them, and also self-studied the SAT, earning a 1570 on my first attempt. I was even deemed a National Merit Scholarship Finalist (top 1% in California) and will be studying Engineering at Cornell University (#1 Ivy Leauge for Engineering) because I've learned how to study. Now, I hope to pass on both my expertise in various subjects, and my study strategies for long term success to my students!

As a tutor, I focus not only on helping students complete their homework or prepare for tests, but also on teaching them how to study and think through problems independently. I approach every student with patience, encouragement, and friendliness because I know how oeverwhelming school can feel.

I specialize in helping elementary, middle, and early high school students with science and math, including biology, environmental science, physics, algebra, and calculus foundations. I particularly enjoy working with younger students because I believe science should feel exciting and approachable—not intimidating. My goal is to explain concepts in simple, clear ways and help students develop curiosity about how the world works.

Through leadership roles in clubs and as a team captain, I’ve gained extensive experience mentoring students from many different grade levels and learning styles. Whether a student needs help understanding a difficult concept, building confidence, or developing better study habits, I’m committed to supporting them every step of the way.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions. I’d love to help your student grow and succeed!

Environmental Science

I became an avid environmentalist throughout high school after my obsession with aquatic life. I created my own organization where I teach students about naturalistic aquatic habitats and learned about ocean ecology & sustainability with the Marine Mammal Center. After conducting marine oceonography research at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, I lead my own research team to identify invasive plants in local regional parks, which required extensive policy and ecology understanding. My experiences gave me a head start with APES, and I often created study guides for my peers in preperation for exams. I consistently earned the highest grade in the class and ultimately scored a 5 on the AP Environmental Science exam. If your looking for someone well-versed with the APES exam to help with your class, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Effective Teaching and Subject Mastery

Alex provided clear and practical guidance on maintaining a saltwater fish tank. He explained the process step by step, highlighting what to do and what to watch for. His advice was very helpful, especially for someone new to saltwater aquariums. We also talked about recent developments in environmental science and their impact on daily life. Alex has solid experience with ocean and environmental issues, and he shared interesting insights on topics like the role of AI in energy. Our conversation covered useful details and gave me a better understanding of these subjects. What I found especially helpful was Alex’s approach - he kept asking me questions throughout the session, which encouraged me to think more deeply and made the learning experience much more interactive. This helped clarify my understanding and made the session feel tailored to my needs. Alex’s teaching style is engaging and adaptable. He is able to explain complex topics in a way that is easy to understand, and he actively involves his students in the learning process. Based on my experience, I believe Alex is well-qualified to teach across all the areas he covers. I would recommend him to anyone interested in these areas.
