Hi, I'm Gokul — a Statistics PhD with 6+ years of experience teaching probability, mathematical statistics, econometrics, actuarial Exam P, calculus, and GRE/GMAT Quant. I recently completed my PhD at UC Riverside, where I developed new statistical methodology (two first-author papers currently under journal review).

During my five years as a TA, I consistently received some of the highest ratings in my department. Students told me that what finally made the material “click” was my ability to explain concepts intuitively from multiple angles. Here are a few things past students have written about my teaching:
“The additional perspectives on problems were very useful for providing a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.”
“His discussions cleared up everything that was confusing in lecture.”
“One of the best TAs I’ve had. Scary smart.”

My teaching philosophy: true success in math and statistics comes from mastering the fundamentals, not memorizing shortcuts. When your foundation is strong, you can solve unfamiliar problems with confidence — including exam questions that look nothing like the textbook. Many students also struggle because earlier concepts—like functions, algebra, or integration—were never fully solidified. I help rebuild those foundations so you can move forward confidently.

My tutoring style: I ask targeted questions to diagnose gaps in understanding, guide you toward the solution, and fill in only what’s missing. This approach builds intuition, independence, and long-term skill.

Who I help:
• Undergrads in probability, mathematical statistics, econometrics, calculus, linear algebra
• High-school students in calculus and advanced math
• Students preparing for Actuarial Exam P, GRE Quant, or GMAT Quant
• Graduate students needing clarity on core statistical concepts
• Professionals using statistics or R for work

If you want clearer understanding, stronger fundamentals, and effective support in challenging math and statistics courses, I’d love to work with you!

Approved Subjects

Actuarial Science

Actuarial Science

I hold a PhD in Statistics and have deep expertise in probability theory, which forms the foundation of Actuarial Exam P. I’ve taught and tutored probability for many years in both classroom and one-on-one settings, and I specialize in explaining challenging concepts clearly and intuitively. I have also helped students work through Exam P–style problems and understand the probability concepts behind them. My approach focuses on fundamentals, problem-solving strategies, and identifying gaps in understanding so you can approach Exam P questions with confidence. Whether you're preparing for your first attempt or strengthening your foundation, I can help you succeed.
Calculus

Calculus

I have a PhD in Statistics and strong experience tutoring single-variable and multivariable calculus. I help students move beyond memorization by developing intuition for limits, derivatives, integrals, and their applications. I regularly work with students on differentiation and integration techniques, optimization, related rates, applications of integrals, sequences and series, and multivariable topics such as partial derivatives and multiple integrals. I focus on identifying where confusion arises and breaking problems down into manageable, logical steps. Whether you’re preparing for an exam, catching up after falling behind, or trying to strengthen fundamentals for future math or statistics courses, I aim to make calculus clearer, more systematic, and less overwhelming.
Econometrics

Econometrics

I hold a PhD in Statistics and have extensive experience teaching and applying econometric methods, including regression, inference, model assumptions, and statistical computing. As a TA and tutor, I’ve helped students master the concepts behind OLS, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and interpretation of regression output. I also have experience implementing econometric analyses in R. Whether you're in an undergraduate econometrics course or working on applied data analysis, I can help you build a strong conceptual foundation and solve complex problems confidently.
Probability

Probability

I have a PhD in Statistics and specialize in teaching probability clearly and rigorously. Probability is often a major stumbling block for students, and my approach emphasizes intuition, structure, and systematic problem-solving rather than ad hoc tricks. I can help with discrete and continuous random variables, common distributions, expectation and variance, conditional probability, joint distributions, transformations, and limit theorems such as the Law of Large Numbers and Central Limit Theorem. I also have extensive experience working with actuarial-track and mathematically rigorous probability courses. My goal is to help you develop confidence and consistency in solving probability problems, especially under exam conditions, while building a solid conceptual foundation for future coursework.
Statistics

Statistics

I have a PhD in Statistics and extensive experience teaching and tutoring undergraduate and upper-division statistics courses. I specialize in helping students build real understanding of statistical concepts rather than memorizing formulas, with a strong focus on problem-solving and exam preparation. I regularly help students with topics such as probability distributions, sufficiency, estimation (including MLE and Bayesian inference), hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, regression, ANOVA and other core topics in mathematical statistics. I’m very familiar with the common pitfalls students face and focus on explaining ideas clearly and intuitively, step by step. Whether you’re preparing for a midterm or final, struggling with homework, or trying to solidify foundations for more advanced courses, I tailor sessions to your goals and time constraints and aim to make sessions as efficient and focused as possible.
