My tutoring experience began in high school, when my AP Chemistry teacher personally recommended me to one of the underclassmen struggling with 10th grade chemistry class. Through weekly sessions, I was able to walk him through all of what he'd been learning, patiently explaining each concept and working on example questions until he was confident in his work. His grades improved quickly and both him and his mother (my AP Psychology teacher) were very pleased!

After high school, I entered UC Berkeley with the intent to pursue a Psychology degree, though I later fell in love with Linguistics and added that as a double major. During that time, I'd taken up some tutoring work on the side, mostly as favors for family friends. A lot of my students were elementary school-aged children, and I would practice basic math concepts with them or explain science with fun stories and simple experiments. I've always been good with kids, attentive and using a lot of positive motivation, and they all enjoyed this experience. My favorite memory involves aiding a kid in building a volcano for a school project while reinforcing the knowledge she'd learned in her science class.
After graduating, I moved to Taiwan and found a very unorthodox job. I was a Catholic sister for 9 years! My experience was very positive, and even though I finally decided not to continue pursuing that path, I look upon this time fondly. During that time, I had experience working at a Catholic junior college as part of the Life Education Department, where we would offer emotional and spiritual guidance to the students who needed it, as well as working with the parish's youth group on Sundays, where I taught Bible lessons in a classroom setting and accompanied them in various fun activities.
In short, my strongest areas of tutoring expertise are math and science, particularly chemistry, but I am also natively fluent in Chinese and would love to tutor that if needed! If you're looking for a fun, positive and dedicated tutor, I'm the one for you!
