Hi, my name is Julia! I am currently attending Santa Clara University and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. I have a strong foundation in math, having followed an accelerated pathway during high school. I earned a 4 on the AP Calculus BC exam with a subscore of 5 on the AB portion and scored 750 on the SAT math section. In my senior year of high school, I was recognized with a math award. Based on my background, I plan to tutor subjects including Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1&2, Precalculus, and Calculus.
While this is my first formal experience tutoring, I have worked in an afterschool program assisting elementary aged students with their assignments and learning activities. Throughout high school and first year of college, classmates would regularly ask me for help with math. Through these experiences, I found a passion for supporting others and have learned to teach across various learning styles and age groups.
My tutoring approach is simple and student focused. I will identify areas of difficulty and prepare practice questions accordingly. I also connect new concepts to real world interests which make learning relevant and engaging. I believe that learning is enjoyable to everyone when it’s taught in a way which makes sense, and I love helping students reach that point.
