Also during my time at Oxford, I private tutored a 3rd grade student in Math and English for about 8 months. When it comes to tutoring, I constantly encourage students to ask me questions if they had any misunderstanding of the material at all. Also, I am a firm believer in practice makes perfect and often had my students do multiple practice problems on a single subject to ensure their grasp and comfortability with the material. Two things I stress constantly is patience and encouragement. These two I believe are great building blocks that we as tutors must use to help our students.
