Grad Student tutoring in ESL/Reading/Writing

I am Sonoma County native with a love for languages. I have studied Spanish and German extensively, as well as English literature, writing and language structures. I have a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics from UC Santa Cruz and I am two semesters away from receiving my Master's in TESOL at San Jose State University. Upon earning my degree, I intend to teach ESL full-time.

I have tutored ESL and English literature/writing independently for the past two years. I am highly motivated to help people reach their goals, be they improved pronunciation, grammar, spelling, reading or writing skills, etc. I am also equipped to handle more specific language needs such as English for the workplace or university. I use the communicative approach but I am conscious of different learning styles and can adapt if the need be. I'm very patient and believe that building confidence is paramount in second language acquisition as well as reading and writing skills.

With many schools moving to an online platform this upcoming fall I understand that middle school and high school students may need extra help in advancing their reading and writing skills or in SAT preparation. Likewise, ESL students may be looking for more speaking practice as their on-campus interactions may be limited or non-existent. I am ready to help in all of these areas!
