I love tutoring! Helping students and professionals become effective communicators is my personal passion. Over a long career working with hundreds of authors in book publishing, and as a television producer, I have been honored by the University of Toronto and Louisiana State University, and I hold honors degrees in Communications and English. For several years, I taught creative writing to under-served populations and it was a joy to watch students develop as excellent readers and writers.
Many people struggle with writing because they feel that they do not know the rules. My tutoring strategy in working with students and professionals is to focus on the building blocks of grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. When we build a solid foundation, focusing on the structure of writing and academic essays, my clients not only understand the rules, but find the freedom to effectively express ideas. As a result, the struggle ceases, grades improve, and they become more productive in less time. Even more, we have fun! I also thoroughly enjoy sharing 30 years of experience in the media arts with my clients through on-camera and public speaking training, presentation design, and reading and writing skills training. As a tutor for the past five years, I have developed very effective resources and lesson plans, tailoring them to meet the needs of each client.
Complete satisfaction with my methods is very important to me. I take the time to understand each student's needs, goals, and expectations before recommending a course of action. I do not bill for the first session and always give students, parents, and clients a clear and reasonable proposal for subsequent tutoring, based upon his or her needs. My preference is to work online via e-mail and Skype at the convenience of my students to facilitate reading, writing, and speaking skills in a contemporary mediated environment.
