Hi! I'm Mahfoud, but most call me Moof, and I have over 10 years of math and science teaching and tutoring experience. In 2013, I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Biology from University of California, Riverside, where I spent 3 years as a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader and Mentor, helping students succeed in a multitude of subjects, including precalculus, trigonometry, calculus, general chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. Since graduating, I've been tutoring students of all ages in all sorts of math and science courses - from elementary arithmetic and algebra to college- and graduate-level biochemistry. I have also helped many pre-health professional students (including pre-medical, pre-dental, and pre-pharmacy students) succeed on standardized exams like the MCAT, DAT, PCAT, and more!

The most common feedback I receive from my students is that I have a knack for communicating seemingly complex concepts very quickly and very simply, saving them tons of study time. The reason I feel I have had so much success with this is that my teaching method is very unassuming. I start by asking the right questions to quickly assess a student's knowledge and understanding. Afterwards, I begin to fill in any knowledge/understanding gaps in a laser-focused manner, and I address any uncertainties or confusions as soon as they appear. This saves a ton of time, which is an all too precious resource when it comes to completing schoolwork and preparing for exams. Additionally, my approach is focused on achieving an in-depth understanding rather than a surface-level familiarity. Coupling the quick filling of learning gaps and the focus on deep understanding is what students seem to value most, which is why they are my priorities when tutoring!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask! I would be happy to answer. Cheers!

MCAT

MCAT

I scored a 518 (96th percentile) overall on the MCAT, with the following sub-section scores: Chemistry/Physics: 130 (97th percentile) Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills: 129 (95th percentile) Biology/Biochemistry: 131 (99th percentile) Psychology/Sociology: 128 (80th percentile) I have thousands of hours of tutoring experience, with a large portion of those hours focused on helping students with the MCAT, especially the science sections, with MCAT biochemistry being a particular specialty of mine. Many of my MCAT students see significant score increases (in the range of 8-12 points), and many have scored in the 80th+ and 90th+ percentiles. If you are looking to work on increasing your scores on the science sections of the MCAT, chances are I will be of great value to you.

Worth 3x the asking price. Hands down the best tutor I've ever had.

Have you ever had the situation in which all of your classmates recommended this particular professor? One whose class filled up as soon as their class was open for enrollment? Moof is like that professor, except he's your private tutor, giving you one-on-one attention. I reached out to Moof because I was trying to learn biochemistry for the MCAT as quickly as possible. Up until that point, I had very limited exposure to biochemistry. Moof overdelivered. He delivered a value which is easily worth 3x his hourly rate. He worked with me and taught me all the biochemistry I needed for the MCAT. He put a lot of time outside of our sessions to prepare his lectures beforehand, and drilled to make sure that I remembered the important parts. Moof has a deep mastery of the subject, and it shows. Thanks to him, I feel that I have a very solid base to build off of as I progress with my MCAT studies. If you're not sold yet, you can literally have a free trial. Look up "Moof University" on YouTube to check out his teaching style. His channel is like Khan Academy on (anabolic) steroids! If that's not enough, he even has a website (moofuniversity.com) that houses his biochemistry course for USMLE Step 1. If you find that to be a valuable resource, wait until you have your first session with him. He's great at explaining it the first time, and even better talking you through practice problems. If that isn't enough, he has also been an excellent MCAT tutor as well! We've gone through practice problems, and he helped me identify my strengths and weaknesses. He has been an invaluable part of my preparation for the MCAT, and my only regret is that I didn't find him sooner. If I ever have additional difficulties with pre-med classes or MCAT preparation, Moof is the first person I will reach out to. I cannot recommend him enough.

Dude! Thank you so much, Z! What an awesome review! I really appreciate all of your exceptionally kind words of praise! You yourself have been an excellent student, and you've made it very easy for me to work with you. The tutor-student connection is a two-sided relationship, and having a dedicated and hardworking student like yourself amplifies whatever value I add as a tutor. Thank you for choosing me as your tutor, and thank you again for such an amazing review! Cheers, and best of luck to you with all of your academic (and related) endeavors!

Exceptional tutor invested in students' success

I worked with Moof frequently while taking my first semester chemistry course for STEM majors, which covered a broad range of chemistry topics. Even though it was an intro course, my professor introduced several obscure topics. Moof was very knowledgeable, and he was also very honest about what topics he was comfortable with and which he was not; when there was something that he didn’t feel he could cover in the moment, he would go out of his way to relearn the material outside of our tutoring sessions so he could come back and help me master the information. He was always very flexible with meeting times and was very easy to schedule when I needed help with either homework or studying. He was willing to put in a lot of time to help me review for important assignments like tests. I could always tell that he had a vested interest in my success in class and would reward my effort with equal effort on his part. He helped me raise my grade by two letter grades to be one of my highest grades this semester. All in all, I would say that he is an exceptional tutor for any level of chemistry.

Knowledgable, Patient and Awesome Biochem, Orgo and Gen Chem MCAT Tutor

I am currently preparing for the MCAT and Moof is an awesome tutor. Unlike many tutors that I have been with, he is patient and takes the time to explain things thoroughly and he asks questions that test and clarify your previous understanding of concepts. He does not rush through problems and makes sure you understand them before moving on to the next question. This, in turn, has strengthened my concepts and I definitely cannot recommend him enough. His Biochemistry videos on his website are also in-depth and visually great to learn.

Very intelligent

He’s a great guy, very thorough. He will work with you as long as you have a goal, highly recommend to anyone who wants to have a solid base in the sciences. Definitely worth the time, he’s concise and doesn’t get lost the in the sauce when teaching.

Best chemistry tutor!

Mahoud was one of the most helpful tutors I have worked with! We met once or twice a week to review chemistry (I'm in graduate school). He reviewed all of the information before every session and was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, patient, and prepared. I definitely got good grades because I worked with him & cannot recommend him enough!

Tutor responded:

Thank you so much for the kind words, Emily! You were a model student - always coming to sessions prepared with very specific questions that allowed me to target and tailor my answers to your exact needs. Thank you for being so great to work with, and best of luck to you with your future academic and professional endeavors!

Great teacher even better guy!!

Mahfoud helped me figure out some technical difficulties with the files I was trying to send him and took time out of his day to help me with them for free. During our lesson he gave me exactly what I was looking for even though it was very last minute. He was very patient and explained everything clearly and in a way that got me to understand. I would highly recommend anyone who has any issues with biochemistry to book a lesson with him you won’t regret it.
