Hello, my name is Aidan! I am an English Language Arts, SAT & PSAT Reading/Writing, and admissions essay tutor with 3,000+ hours of experience that works with students in elementary school, high school, and university.

My experience includes my tenure as owner and lead tutor of Cordero Tutoring Services and as an Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Academic Tutor. In this role, I tutor high school students in English Language Arts, Spanish, and test preparation as they prepare to embark upon their college journeys.

As a graduate of the University of California, Davis and a holder of a Linguistics B.A. and a minor in Spanish, one of my greatest passions is using my language abilities to craft compelling essays and analyze literature. I pride myself on staying in-tune with key trends and expectations in the college admissions process, and I value results-driven SAT/PSAT studying strategies. Students who have worked with me consistently earn SAT scores above 1300, placing them among the top 15% of all test takers.

Over the years, I have had the privilege to guide my students through the complex college application process and help them write exceptional admissions essays. I have developed a keen eye for identifying students’ unique strengths and how they can stand out among the competition. My students have been accepted to programs like the Stanford Summer Humanities Institute and have been admitted to top-tier universities including the University of Southern California, Boston University, UC Davis, and the University of Virginia.

My teaching style is student-centered and flexible, and I aim to foster a learning environment that encourages empathy, exploration of student interests, and critical thinking. When I tutor English, I do so with patience and attention to a student's individual needs. Further, my experience as a tutor at a California high school and my skills as a linguist allow me to teach the language’s grammar and punctuation mechanics with nuance and accuracy. With my guidance, students can learn how to apply the language effectively in the context of academic and creative writing, reading comprehension, and public speaking.

My principal interests in the field include language policy, bilingual education, and the histories of the English and Spanish languages. I have applied my precise reading ability throughout my career by proofreading academic essays, admissions essays, and even blog posts. My passion for literary analysis and experience tutoring AP English Language & Composition and AP Literature & Composition enable me to quickly read and understand passages. My lessons are always grounded in proven reading comprehension strategies, including Cornell Notetaking and the GIST Method. I believe that exceptional reading comprehension is something that all of my students, regardless of age or reading level, can achieve!
