I have 32 years experience as a clinical psychologist, including teaching undergraduate and graduate courses at Cal State LA, private practice w/adults, families and children as well as forensic psychology specialties in family and criminal law. I retired from CA Dept of Corrections and Rehabilitation in June, 2015. I have extensive report writing experience and greatly enjoy learning and teaching. Doing psychotherapy involves many elements of teaching, after all! I have a love of language and literature, particularly poetry and literary novels. I have read extensively about recent advances in neuroscience and neuroplasticity, which I find incredibly fascinating. I am pursuing creative writing projects myself at this point in my life and I greatly enjoy surrounding myself with youthful energy and enthusiasm! I have successfully raised three children, all of whom are doing well in their adulthood. Tutoring, particularly at the high school and university level, offers me an ongoing opportunity to interact with young people in a meaningful and goal-oriented manner that will keep my brain active and hopefully, of service to other brains as well!!
I love reading and writing, I believe in the "holiness of language" and in the necessity of humor and the development of congenial relationships as methods of imparting knowledge to another. I am, nonetheless, quite pragmatic in the recognition of a student's need to succeed within existing educational institutions.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
