Hi, I'm Shimika! I'm a social science researcher by trade but enjoy teaching and mentoring others on the side. I have 5+ years of experience as a tutor and peer educator. I graduated cum laude from UC San Diego with a B.S. in Cognitive Science, a degree path that strengthened my writing, research, and analytical skills.

English and History were my favorite subjects growing up, and I was consistently a top performer, earning a near-perfect score on the ACT English exam and perfect scores on the ACT Reading/Writing and AP U.S. and European History exams.

Here’s what I can help with:
- Providing support with ELA assignments, including grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension (Grades K–6)
- Editing and proofreading essays, personal statements, and research papers for English, History, and Social Science courses (all levels)

I’ve always been passionate about helping students succeed — even as a kid, when I would assist my friends and younger brother with their English, History, and writing assignments. Since then, I’ve worked with students of all ages, including tutoring elementary school students in ELA, editing and proofreading essays and reports, and serving as a peer educator and instructional assistant during college.

As a tutor and peer educator, I work one-on-one with students to develop personalized learning strategies, making lessons both engaging and tailored to individual needs.
