Let's work together to not only build your foundational skills in American Sign Language but to also improve your study habits to optimize your results.

In 2020, I changed my language studying habits so I could re-incorporate studying languages (that I studied in the past) into my daily routine. In 2023, I added on my fourth language. Since languages are constantly changing (i.e. new phrases/slang), I continue to receive training in my second and third languages, American Sign Language and Spanish, to stay sharp while gradually improving my Mandarin skills.

Working with me, you will not only receive ASL lessons but also tips on ways to make language learning a part of your lifestyle so it feels like something is missing when you haven't done your studying for the day. As a certified personal trainer with a behavior change specialization, I like to use different approaches to help clients overcome mental obstacles to achieve their fitness goals (whether physical fitness or mental fitness like language learning).

About Me:
I was featured as a model in a few ASL books including: "American Sign Language Workbook: Exercises to Build Your Signing Vocabulary" by Rochelle Barlow and "American Sign Language Dictionary for Beginners" by Tara Adams

As an actress, I have portrayed to role of a hearing person who knows ASL in commercials.

I have several degrees including: a bachelor's degree in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies, completed an English/ASL Interpreter Training program, an MBA in International Business and an associate's degree in Spanish.

I have previous experience working in education as a tutor and paraeducator. As a paraeducator, from 2014 to the present, I assist pre-K through 12th grade Deaf/hard-of-hearing students by explaining concepts in ASL so they can complete their assignment in written English. I also have experience with tutoring adults as they study ASL in college.

Acting

Acting

I have been involved with the performing arts since 2001. I have worked with clients such as Sutter Health, Logitech, Square, Shape Magazine, REI, PayCom, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and California Department of Natural Resources. I can help with reviewing lines, character development and self-tape auditions.
Business

Business

I have an International Master of Business Administration degree. I have tutored subjects in business including business ethics, advertising, and marketing. I graduated Magna Cum Laude and have been a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success since November 2014.
College Counseling

College Counseling

During my undergraduate years, I held an officer position of an academic organization that was focused on helping minorities to advance in the field of engineering. During that time, I provided guidance on ways to improve students' academic experience by providing them with advice on good study habits, self-care, and resources to reach out to in the event that they needed additional assistance. During my graduate school years, I offered the same assistance to students that came to me for help based on them noticing how organized I was in school. Due to my achievements in graduate school, I was invited to join the National Society for Leadership and Success. Upon joining that organization, I was able to sharpen my skills on how to become a better leader and to help others succeed.
Fitness

Fitness

I helped athletes to prepare for track meets by creating drills for both long and short distance events. I like to participate with the students as they do their drills; it's more interactive and the athletes (that I have worked with) responded well to my involvement. Everyone gets their hearts pumping during my conditioning drills during the season or during the off-season.
Hard of Hearing

Hard of Hearing

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies. During my studies in this subject I worked with hard-of-hearing students. Even after my program, I worked with hard-of-hearing children through a county's office of education as a Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Paraeducator.
Marketing

Marketing

My coursework in my master's degree program focused on marketing on a domestic and international level. I have been utilizing my marketing skills in my own business as a tutor and certified personal trainer. I have met with career coaches who have provided me with additional training on marketing techniques.
Nutrition

Nutrition

I am currently pursuing a fitness nutrition specialist certification. I took a college course on nutrition. I continue to research new findings within the field of nutrition so I can offer more advice to my clients as a personal trainer.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I have assisted many students with their papers in regards to proofreading and helping them to further expand on their ideas.
Sign Language

Sign Language

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies. I have been immersed in many Deaf culture environments. I have studied various aspects of the Deaf culture and community ranging from Deaf history to Deaf literature. I have even studied Deaf cultures outside of the United States including Australia, Germany, and New Zealand (Maori and non-Maori). I have tutored students in American Sign Language ranging from pre-K to college.
Spanish

Spanish

I have an Associate of Arts degree in Spanish and a Certificate of Achievement in Spanish. I studied Spanish at Solano Community College, Diablo Valley College and California State University, Sacramento. I have helped students with their first year of Spanish in the past. I use Spanish on a daily basis and I continue to study it to improve my skills as well. I believe that with language studies, it's important to always find ways to learn more about the language even if you are highly advanced.
Theater

Theater

I studied college-level theater arts and performed in theatrical productions from 2001 to 2011. The coursework that I studied includes Theater History: Ancient to Renaissance Era, Principles and Theories of Acting, Acting & Movement Training Program, and Technical Production. I have a lot of college-level experience in breaking down a script to understand a character's objectives throughout the scene and with working to fully memorize lines prior to a performance.
Track & Field

Track & Field

During the 2018 Track and Field season, I worked with over 70 middle school athletes. I specialized in training athletes to do short distance events. I also acted as a mentor; students would come to me feeling disappointed or upset about their performance during a track meet and I would encourage them to not let that bring them down. I am used to working with athletes in groups or one-on-one for conditioning training.

Experienced, friendly and encouraging

Jocelynn really knows her stuff. Not only did she show me signs, but she also explained a lot about Deaf culture that I didn't know. She was very positive and easy to work with. Looking forward to more lessons.

Passionate and delightful

Jocelynn taught me what was looking for but included so much more than just the signs, she emphasized expression and feeling and heart. She created a positive safe space that was easy and enjoyable to learn in. 10/10 would recommend!

Great ASL teacher!

Jocelynn is the best! I’ve been studying with her for 12 months now and both semesters have gotten A’s in my sign language classes. She’s also edited papers I’ve written, which I also got all A’s on. This is at the university level. I have no doubt she has had a great impact on my grades! She is very professional and encouraging. I am so thankful to have found her as a tutor!
