Learning has always been a passion in my life. Academic learning, life experience, motivational books. Just name it. I have helped and tutored grade levels from elementary to college, where I majored in Chemical Engineering. I took time to understand concepts and extended these understandings to different subjects. I took AP science, math, history and social science courses in high school and continued my intellectual pursuits in college.

Learning has always been a passion in my life. Academic learning, life experience, motivational books. Just name it. I have helped and tutored grade levels from elementary to college, where I majored in Chemical Engineering. I took time to understand concepts and extended these understandings to different subjects. I took AP science, math, history and social science courses in high school and continued my intellectual pursuits in college.

I have usually tutored math and science subjects in individual and group settings. I spent the majority of my time in high school tutoring as part of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF). In college, I was a leader in Tau Beta Pi (National Engineering Honors Society). I enjoyed teaching numerous students in both lower and upper division math, science, and engineering courses.

I was also part of a UC research program where I learned and Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. I expanded upon my knowledge base with these applications in my professional life.

I'm here to help you understand and hopefully have mastery over a topic. I don't believe in memorization to succeed. Yes, it's needed at times. But you'll have a much better time in school understanding it conceptually. I've been there. And yes, it's frustrating. But there are many ways to learn.

This is a team effort. Learning takes effort from both the student and the mentor. Let's learn together!

Algebra 1

I teach Algebra with the same structure that I used when I learned it. I have helped middle school and high school students alike with success. It takes patience because there are mathematical manipulation and deals with the abstract concept of a variable. Once we can get past these areas, we can get to more complicated topics more comfortably.

Algebra 2

I am able to teach and help students understand topics from algebra to calculus. Often times, algebra is rushed through without the proper framework. With the right structure, it can definitely be learned. I have assisted many students in identifying any underlying deficiencies math fundamentals, which often make learning algebra more difficult than it should be.

I took AP Bio in high school. In college, I took one year of lower division and upper division courses in advanced genetics, biochemistry, bioenergetics.
Calculus

Calculus

I have taken calculus on three different levels: high school (AP Calculus Score = 5), community college (A+), and university level (B+, A, A). I have delved into differential, integral, multivariate and vector calculus with applications in engineering. I have taught students and taken them through both the theoretical and practical applications. Theory is important to understand how to visualize. Applications are critical for hands-on understanding and to build the mathematics into our physical world. After all, calculus was developed to help communicate and model the world around us. Nerdy aside: what piqued my interest in this subject was when I was awestruck to find out that y = x^2 and y = 2x were related. How could a parabola and straight line be possibly related? Answer: Calculus!
Chemistry

I've taken AP Chemistry in high school. My college prerequisites were (Honors) General Chem, Organic Chem and Physical Chem. I've worked on research projects in chemistry. I have been able to teach many peers in all chemistry subjects, from theory to lab application.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

Differential Equations is a critical tool for engineers. Many of their further engineering courses are dependent upon differential equations to describe the phenomena that they will be studying. I have taken DE in my engineering program, plus I have studied PDEs and ODEs. I have worked with Diff Eq students who have both excelled in their coursework.

I have taken multiple classes in economics. In high school, I aced both AP Macro and AP Micro exams. I continued to develop a fascination and appreciation for both macroeconomics (inflation, GDP, money supply, unemployment) and furthered my studies in upper division microeconomics.

PowerPoint sprung into my life when I was in an undergrad research program and had to learn it to make research posters. After noticing its usefulness, I began to apply PowerPoint in other areas like in automated (timed) professional presentations, dynamic crowd-engagement tools, and fun, memorable slideshows for family events. I have worked with co-workers and cohorts to show them the basic and intermediate level PowerPoint functions. They have often taken those core elements and explored their creativity, often surprising and impressing their audiences.
