Hi! My name is Mark and I have been teaching piano and music composition in California for over thirty-five years. With honors, I received a B.A. degree in Music and an M.A. degree in Music Performance, with piano as my instrument of concentration. I tutor one to one in the homes of my students and online. My teaching approach is easygoing, creative, fun and comprehensive. In addition to learning how to play pieces, I also offer theory, sight reading, ear training and improvisation to those students who are interested. Whether an aspiring student wants to learn piano just for enjoyment or focus more on competitions and performing, I am always supportive and organize the lessons accordingly. I teach a variety of genres, including the four eras of classical music, jazz, pop and country. For students interested in taking piano exams, I am a member of both the Music Teacher's Association of California and the American College of Musicians.
I truly enjoy being involved with music. Over the years, I have been an adjudicator of international piano competitions through United States Beacon Artist Association in San Jose, California. I am a published, commissioned composer and arranger. Among other awards, I was first prize winner in the National 10th Annual Festival of Contemporary Music Competition, which received its world premiere at the Chamber Wind Celebration in San Francisco.
As a piano tutor, I'm flexible and always listen to my students. If they have a certain song or piece that they want to learn, then I'm happy to teach it to them. My lessons are calm, pleasant and entertaining. I'm easy to reach and will respond quickly. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson and I look forward to hearing from you!
