I am a retired, seasoned business professional who has developed a love of learning and discovered a love of teaching along the way. My experience has included a wide range of business categories: commercial aerospace, mining, wholesale/retail, and manufacturing. In addition,I have also been a trainer and consultant to companies in areas related to customer service, organizational development, communications, team-building, and Total Quality Management. I have been a substitute teacher in the Escondido Union School District for the past one and a half years, spending the majority of my time in middle schools working with math, literature, language, and humanities teachers. I have 13 grandchildren whom I have tutored from time to time in their school studies of math, English, literature, and history.
I believe the most successful outcomes occur when they are first, specifically defined and secondly,when a mutual trust and respect is developed between the student and the teacher. It would be my goal to have students learn not only the mechanics of any subject, but to develop the critical thinking processes to come to logical conclusions. One of the hardest math problems to solve is a word problem. Life is a word problem and critical thinking skills are essential to solving it. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
