It’s a pleasure to e-meet you! I’m Patrick, and I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in computational biology from the University of Chicago. In college, I discovered my passion for teaching, and accumulated nearly 2,000 hours of teaching experience as a TA in general chemistry, biology, and biochemistry across 4 years. These experiences spanned large lecture sequences, interactive workshops of ~10 students, and also 1 on 1 tutoring sessions. I also volunteered at a local public school and tutored students in STEM classes. In all of these experiences, I resonated with the opportunity to connect with students on an individual level so that I could understand their needs and tailor study strategies to their specific goals.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my teaching experiences was the formal training I received in pedagogical techniques. From spaced repetition, to concept maps, or even the Feynman method, each technique is a different tool for students to overcome their specific challenges and take the next step forwards. I strive to bring this skill set and mentality to each session so that I may serve as a tailored and personal educational resource for students.

I am specifically interested in tutoring for the MCAT. I scored a 524 on the MCAT after studying part time for 2 months, and my biggest resource was my tutor “P.A.”. He identified my content and test-taking weaknesses, before helping me strategize how I could use specific study resources to strengthen my performance. Since then, I have carried this help forward and leveraged my past teaching experience to help nearly a dozen students achieve a mean score improvement of 13.6 points between their diagnostic and final score.

Every student is different, and I strive to understand their goals and craft a study plan that leverages the study resources and learning methods that best fulfill their unique needs. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like additional information!

Biostatistics

Biostatistics

Throughout my undergraduate degree in quantitative biology at the University of Chicago, I was involved in biostatistics driven novel drug target discovery in the Khomtchouk Lab. We worked primarily in the cardiovascular disease space across analytical paradigms including: genome-wide association studies, single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, Mendelian Randomization, genetic colocalization, and custom built regression and machine-learning models (primarily in R and Python). Our work first led to publications in various peer-reviewed journals, but more recently has led to industry consulting collaborations with publicly traded biotech companies such as New Amsterdam Pharma and Novo Nordisk.
Chemistry

Chemistry

Incoming first year medical student. Tutored general chemistry at the University of Chicago for 3 years, scored a 524 on the MCAT.
College Counseling

College Counseling

Attended UNWNR T5 school for undergrad and incoming MS1 at a T10 medical school. Two years of admissions consulting for undergraduate applications, coaching students to craft a compelling narrative for their personal statement and establish a cohesive edge based on their specific extracurriculars. Strategized REA/ED/EA allocation to help students maximize their extracurriculars and spikes by targeting school-specific niches and missions.
MCAT

MCAT

100th percentile MCAT score (524). Section scores of 130/130/132/132. Experienced tutor with 2000 hours of teaching experience in general chemistry, biochemistry, and biology, along with 200+ hours of MCAT-content and study strategy tutoring.
Poker

Poker

During my time as an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, I studied modern poker theory using solvers from GTOWizard. I studied exclusively 6-max and 9-max No Limit Texas Hold Em, starting at 1/3 and gradually progressing to 2/5 and now 5/10 games. I have a lifetime P/L of over $20,000 and used it to pay for my medical school applications! My edge over opponents comes primarily from playing accurately in low-reciprocity scenarios such as check-raise lines.

So kind and patient!

Patrick is amazing! He was very thorough and patient and genuinely wants to help those he tutors to understand! He never once made me feel incompetent or as if I wasn't smart. He is also willing to explain what he is doing and why and how to interpret everything.

Extremely Helpful and Knowledgeable

Patrick is an expert in R and biostats! I came into the session lost but he exactly knew the necessary steps to tackle each problem in R, and the best thing was that he explained what he was doing along the way! Patrick was also super patient with my questions and addressed them thoroughly so I completely understood everything. By the end of the session, I not only gained new and valuable information but also felt confident that I could perform these biostatistical analyses and coding tasks on my own next time! I'll definitely reach out to him again when the need arises!
