Hi, Wyzant parents and students! I'm Mike, and I've dedicated the past decade to helping students become stronger, more confident writers and critical thinkers. I specialize in academic writing, research papers, argumentative and literary analysis essays, thesis development, MLA and APA formatting, AP exam preparation, and college application essays. I'm also TEFL certified through the Peace Corps and have taught English in Ethiopia, Ecuador, and India. Beyond English, I tutor history (my major), civics, philosophy, geography, sociology, and anthropology.

I graduated magna cum laude from the State University of New York at Cortland in 2016. As a sophomore, I became a peer writing tutor and quickly discovered my passion for helping students develop not only stronger papers but also a genuine appreciation for writing as a lifelong skill.

My teaching style is personable, collaborative, and encouraging. I want students to leave each session not only with a better assignment, but with greater confidence in their own abilities. My goal is to help students become independent learners who no longer need me.

I've worked with students of all ages, backgrounds, and learning styles in both traditional classrooms and online settings. Professionally, I've tutored for Tutor.com (a Princeton Review company), TutorMe, and Upswing, where I supported students from colleges and universities across the country in writing, English, and the humanities.

Tutoring has been the most meaningful work of my life. I've had the privilege of helping thousands of students across cultures and continents discover their own potential as writers and learners. I approach every session with patience, enthusiasm, and genuine care, and I welcome open communication with both students and parents to ensure we achieve each learner's goals. I'm flexible with scheduling and would be honored to be part of your academic journey.
