Bio

I am a singer/songwriter/composer. I have a background in all musical genres and I especially love to write and perform contemporary, pop, rock, R&B, and theater. But I'm open to teaching whatever you're interested in learning! My focus here started with Jazz vocal students, but I have been fortunate enough to have students who all want to share and better their songwriting skills!

But I'm open to teaching whatever you're interested in learning! My focus here started with Jazz vocal students, but I have been fortunate enough to have students who all want to share and better their songwriting skills!

Jazz is America's very first musical art form and it has not only inspired many genres globally but it has influenced many popular genres we listen to today. I recommend studying jazz to any student who is interested in immersing themselves into understanding the knowledge and beauty that goes into creating music, or any student who wants to one day become a professional musician. Nothing could prepare you better for the future music world than having grasped the jazz idiom. I learned my immense amount of knowledge while studying Studio Music and Jazz Vocal Performance at the University of Miami.

From my time there I have developed an even greater passion for music than I had before I went to college (whether I'm singing or writing the music and/or lyrics or a song). More so, I have gained a passion for making music with others (collaboratively and as a director). Now that I have finished school I think it would be truly rewarding to have the opportunity to show others what I know and potentially inspire them to further pursue a long lasting career in the world of music.

Anthropology

Anthropology

I minored in Anthropology while in college. I excelled in all 5 of my courses: 2 of which were core Anthropological subfields (Cultural and Physical). I think those are the most important subfields to know because they directly relate to our human/primate evolutionary past (physical), and they relate to our present times as human beings; teaching us how to look at other cultures without an ethnocentric gaze (cultural). Additionally, both other those courses naturally involve some teachings in archaeology and linguistics respectively. The other 3 courses I took were specific cultural studies (Anthropology of food, Caribbean cultures, Drugs and Culture) and involved applied anthropology to our work.
Composition (Music)

I am a composer myself. I have written charts for big bands, jazz vocal ensembles and for myself as a vocalist with a rhythm section. When writing lyrical tunes I always try to create a sense of musical prosody so the music matches whatever message I'm trying to invoke in my lyrics.
Ear Training

Ear Training

I was professionally taught Ear Training at Frost School of Music. My degree required me to take 4 skills courses that focused solely on ear training as well as 14 additional courses that made ear training 1/3 to 1/2 of the curriculum and grade. I am proficient in aurally identifying all notes, intervals, and chords; and most common voicings, and chord progressions.
General Music

General Music

I have been studying music for 17 years now. Music is my passion and I have gained so much of knowledge whether it pertains to theory, composition, lyric writing, solo performing or group performing. I have the tools needed to teach anyone the basics of music.
Piano

Piano

I was professionally trained in Piano at Frost School of Music. My degree required me to take a total of 2 Piano Course. I also completed 10 additional music courses that had a large part of the grade focused on piano (Skills Ensembles). My final semester I added Jazz Piano lessons just for kicks!
Songwriting

I am a songwriter myself. I have written many songs of my own and have showcased them during performances I have had. During college I took several classes on songwriting which enhanced my abilities to create a good lyric. With the advanced lyric writing classes I have had, I learned many methods of how to begin writing a lyric, editing a lyric, and even tricks to get passed writers block.
Voice (Music)

Voice (Music)

I have a singing background in Jazz, Theater, Opera, and R&B, and contemporary music so I am prepared to teach whichever is requested. I have also learned a lot from the voice lessons I've had over the years (such as proper breathing techniques, and air support) so I have many ways to help a young singer develop a more mature singing voice.

Amazing music teacher for my daughter! Nicole is really talented and with her positively bright personality, she really inspires my 11 yo daughter with her music lessons. She looks forward to Nicole’s lessons every week and it has really built up her confidence with voice and piano. Nicole is a terrific teacher!
