I have worked as a school-teacher for Art and P.E. for K-12, as well as college students. I have worked as a school-teacher for Art and P.E. for K-12, as well as college students. After being a classroom teacher for a few years, I was awarded a merit scholarship to study at Utah State University for Art + Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, where I worked with internationally recognized artists and scientists on creative projects that inform people about scientific studies.

Now I am working at an art museum and teaching private lessons and art classes at my art studio in the Solana Beach Design District. My students come to my art studio for lessons and I am available to travel to you

I studied Studio Art with an emphasis in Drawing and Painting at Florida State University, received an art merit scholarship from the University of Denver, and have taught art for 7+ years. I have shown my paintings in galleries and museums, and currently work in museum education for the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art.

I love writing music and playing by ear. Music is expressive and effective as a tool for genuine communication. I play guitar and bass by ear, and I sing. I have recorded dozens of songs in a variety of settings: professional studios, home recording, radio stations, etc. I have been classically trained as a singer in a men’s choir and creative writer of lyrics and poetry.

Energetic, friendly, and knowledgeable!

I was looking for an art tutor that would help me create and review my art for college portfolios, and I am extremely happy with everything Mikey has done to help me! He has always helped critique my art as I work on it and catch things that I have missed myself. I came in without much of an idea of what I would need to learn to improve my art, and everything new that he's taught me has been useful to know. As I've gotten closer to submitting stuff to art colleges, he's even helped review and edit my college essays with me which has been so helpful! I've always enjoyed learning art from him and also seeing what he's been working on as an artist himself. He's flexible and is a great listener. As someone who takes lessons with him over Zoom, I've never felt being online has negatively impacted my learning experience. I feel like I've learned just as much as if I was with him in a studio in person. 10/10 will continue to learn art from Mikey!

Mikey is friendly and patient, an excellent teacher. I am interested in portraiture and have been devoting time to sketching family members.
