About Quentin

Bio

I have been in the arts since I left my biology background. I studied classical drawing and painting initially at Watts Atelier, then Studio 2nd Street, then LA Figurative Arts. I have studied with well known instructors such as Steve Huston, Glenn Vilppu, Karl Gnass, Nathan Fowkes. I have taught drawing, painting and color anatomy for a variety of local art studios and venues (classes and workshops), in addition to working for the City of Carlsbad as an arts educator. I have studied with well known instructors such as Steve Huston, Glenn Vilppu, Karl Gnass, Nathan Fowkes. I have taught drawing, painting and color anatomy for a variety of local art studios and venues (classes and workshops), in addition to working for the City of Carlsbad as an arts educator. I currently teach for a small art studio in Carmel Valley. I have authored two books on color anatomy (Making Sense of Color series) and I have been working on a graphic novel series (Yatra Volume 1 is published). I love teaching fundamentals to empower students to pursue their own artistic goals and style.

While I have a traditional, realism background/education, I work primarily in a graphic novel style, which is representational only. The same concepts of line, color, notan, rhythm, figure drawing, proportion etc. all still apply. My work is in print and my books are available for purchase through Amazon.
Painting

Painting

I have painted in gouache and oil, with some acrylic for instructional purposes. I mostly painted to learn color but I have painted figures, landscapes (plein air) and still life. While traditional painting is not my personal focus anymore, most painting skills rely on solid drawing knowledge, color and materials, which I am well versed in.
