I’m a retired data scientist/algorithmic trader turned full-time educator with a deep love for mathematics and physics.
I hold Master’s degrees in Engineering and Mathematics from Columbia University, (where I graduated with a GPA above 4.0), as well as an MBA from the London School of Economics. Having competed in national Math and Physics Olympiads and later taught at the graduate level, I know what it takes to succeed.
I specialize in AP Mathematics (AP Calculus, AP Statistics) , AP Physics, AP Chemistry and SAT preparation, helping students strengthen their conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and exam technique. My goal isn’t just higher grades or test scores (though we’ll get those!) — it’s helping students truly understand what they’re learning and build the confidence to tackle any challenge independently.

My teaching journey began as a graduate student at Columbia, tutoring high schoolers who were struggling with math and science. Since then, I’ve served as a teaching assistant and Dean’s Tutor for advanced university courses, supporting students in mastering everything from Calculus and Linear Algebra to Engineering Physics.

In recent years, I’ve helped students significantly raise their SAT scores — often by 100–200 points — through clear explanations, practical test strategies, and personalized feedback. Whether it’s working through tricky AP Calculus concepts or optimizing your SAT problem-solving speed, I bring patience, structure, and genuine care to every lesson.

I genuinely love mathematics and physics. That love is what drives my teaching, it’s not just about getting the right answers, but about building deep understanding and intellectual curiosity. My ultimate goal as a tutor is to guide my students to a point where they no longer need a tutor.

ACT Math

ACT Math

I specialize in SAT/ACT Math tutoring, combining deep subject knowledge with proven test strategies. I tutor ACT Math in-person through Columbia’s Tutoring Agency, helping inner-city students improve their scores and confidence. I’ve helped students reach their target scores and often surpass them through clear explanations and structured practice. My sessions focus on building problem-solving skills, pacing, and accuracy under timed conditions. Over the years, I’ve created my own comprehensive library of ACT-specific materials, organized by mathematical themes, subtopics, and difficulty levels. I teach students how to spot patterns, interpret tricky phrasing, and avoid common ACT traps. My custom drills include the most frequent question types and word-play variations seen on real tests. We also focus on pacing and building accuracy under timed conditions, so students perform their best on test day. Every session includes a balance of guided problem-solving, review, and independent practice to reinforce key techniques. Beyond content, I help students develop the confidence and composure needed for high-stakes testing. My ultimate goal is not just a score increase, but to equip each student with problem-solving skills that last well beyond the SAT/ACT.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

In Algebra 1, I focus on three pillars: Concept clarity: making sure you truly understand the “why” behind each topic, not just the steps. Structured problem solving: breaking questions into clear, repeatable methods you can apply under test conditions. Confidence building: using targeted practice and review to help you feel steady and prepared before quizzes and exams. Over the years, I’ve created my own structured materials that group problems by topic and difficulty, so practice is always focused and effective. David the Magnificent

David is one of the most magnificent tutors I've ever had. He's very knowledgeable on the variety of topics he teaches such as Physics C and Calculus BC, both of which I have taken lessons on. I can deeply affirm that not only his knowledge on these topics, but that his teaching skills and especially his reasoning is of the highest quality. I have had many teachers especially for math, since the beginning Middle School from Algebra 1 till now as a High School Junior with Calculus BC. Many of them come off as unfriendly and unhelpful with their very boxed in mindsets, purely reliant on memorization, and their lack of knowhow on the why of the topic. David is different in this regard. His explanations are extremely clear, understandable, and impactful due to his masterful repertoire of Math Skills, translating to everything he does. He also understands the struggle of math, especially with Calculus BC where there are too many formulas creating an impossibility to remember all of them. David teaches the skills to deal with the issue. Too many formulas? Just remember a few and derive the rest. Conceptual Misunderstandings? He brings out diagrams and images to let you see and understand, with his explanations supplementing your realizations. I cannot stress enough of how much of a help David has been through Calculus BC and sincerely recommend this tutor for your math troubles.

Excellent tutor

David is an extremely knowledgeable, patient and effective tutor. He has been working with my math-focused daughter on AMC 12 prep but also managed to engage my less motivated son with his enthusiasm for teaching. He comes prepared and it's clear that he cares that his students are learning the material covered. I highly recommend him.

Linear Algebra taught intuitively

David does a great job of explaining the intuition and helping me to visualize concepts. He can take an entire chapter of a textbook and condense it into a few really insightful main ideas. He's been a great help with linear algebra.

The Best Tutor ever! Head and shoulders above the rest!

The session was beyond any expectation. My daughter has had dozens of tutors over the years David is profoundly in different league. He just does not know math he is Math. Deeper understanding with explanations that improve your understanding. I have never seen my daughter so excited about finally understanding questions. Yoda level master! Also very inspiring my daughter studied harder after he tutored her! You can not go wrong with David! He is not even on the same scale as other tutors!
