Having competed in national Math and Physics Olympiads and later taught at the graduate level, I know what it takes to succeed.
I specialize in AP Mathematics, AP Physics, and SAT preparation, helping students strengthen their conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and exam technique. My goal isn’t just higher grades or test scores (though we’ll get those!) — it’s helping students truly understand what they’re learning and build the confidence to tackle any challenge independently.

My teaching journey began as a graduate student at Columbia, tutoring high schoolers who were struggling with math and science. Since then, I’ve served as a teaching assistant and Dean’s Tutor for advanced university courses, supporting students in mastering everything from Calculus and Linear Algebra to Engineering Physics.

In recent years, I’ve helped students significantly raise their SAT scores — often by 100–200 points — through clear explanations, practical test strategies, and personalized feedback. Whether it’s working through tricky AP Calculus concepts or optimizing your SAT problem-solving speed, I bring patience, structure, and genuine care to every lesson.

I genuinely love mathematics and physics. That love is what drives my teaching, it’s not just about getting the right answers, but about building deep understanding and intellectual curiosity. My ultimate goal as a tutor is to guide my students to a point where they no longer need a tutor.

ACT Math

ACT Math

I specialize in SAT/ACT Math tutoring, combining deep subject knowledge with proven test strategies. I tutor ACT Math in-person through Columbia’s Tutoring Agency, helping inner-city students improve their scores and confidence. I’ve helped students reach their target scores and often surpass them through clear explanations and structured practice. My sessions focus on building problem-solving skills, pacing, and accuracy under timed conditions. Over the years, I’ve created my own comprehensive library of ACT-specific materials, organized by mathematical themes, subtopics, and difficulty levels. I teach students how to spot patterns, interpret tricky phrasing, and avoid common ACT traps. My custom drills include the most frequent question types and word-play variations seen on real tests. We also focus on pacing and building accuracy under timed conditions, so students perform their best on test day. Every session includes a balance of guided problem-solving, review, and independent practice to reinforce key techniques. Beyond content, I help students develop the confidence and composure needed for high-stakes testing. My ultimate goal is not just a score increase, but to equip each student with problem-solving skills that last well beyond the SAT/ACT.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

In Algebra 1, I focus on three pillars: Concept clarity: making sure you truly understand the “why” behind each topic, not just the steps. Structured problem solving: breaking questions into clear, repeatable methods you can apply under test conditions. Confidence building: using targeted practice and review to help you feel steady and prepared before quizzes and exams. Over the years, I’ve created my own structured materials that group problems by topic and difficulty, so practice is always focused and effective. I also teach strategies for recognizing patterns, reducing errors, and tackling word problems with clarity and confidence. Algebra 1 is a foundational subject in Mathematics and first real challenge for many so I’m committed to helping you not only improve your grades but also build real confidence in the subject. More than just preparing for exams, my goal is to help you truly understand and even enjoy mathematics so future topics like calculus come naturally.

AMC (Competition math)

AMC (Competition math)

I have advanced degrees in Mathematics and Engineering from Harvard and Columbia. During My high school years I successfully competed in USJMO, USAMO, F=ma as well as science olympiads I specialize in preparing students for competitive math exams like AIME, AMC and F=ma. With expertise in advanced problem‑solving across algebra, geometry, and calculus, I break down complex concepts into clear, structured lessons. My focus is on building confidence, sharpening analytical skills, and guiding students toward success in high‑level competitions.
Calculus

Calculus

Calculus is where mathematics truly comes alive. It’s the bridge between abstract ideas and the real world. I’ve taught students at every level, from AP Calculus AB/BC to advanced multivariable and graduate-level courses. With two Master’s degrees in Mathematics and one in Engineering from Columbia University, I bring both academic depth and practical insight from my years working in quantitative finance and data science. My approach focuses on building strong conceptual understanding before moving to problem-solving mastery. I’ve helped AP students move from struggling to confidently scoring 5s, and guided university students through the toughest topics - from limits and derivatives to differential equations and vector calculus. Lessons are personalized to the student’s pace, goals, and preferred learning style. Whether your aim is exam success or a deeper appreciation of the subject, I’ll help make Calculus clear, intuitive, and rewarding.

Knowledgeable and Passionate Tutor

David is the best tutor I have worked with in physics. Before working with him, I was mostly memorizing formulas without really understanding them, but after a few sessions I started to see where each equation came from and how the concepts actually fit together. He explains difficult topics like 2D motion and kinematics in clear, logical steps and constantly asks guiding questions so I learn how to think through problems on my own instead of just copying solutions. He uses diagrams and real-life examples that make abstract ideas easy to visualize and remember, and he is extremely patient and encouraging, always willing to explain a concept in different ways until it finally clicks. He also gives me focused practice and clear summaries, which makes studying for tests much more efficient. Because of David, my grades and test scores have improved, but more importantly I feel confident in physics and genuinely enjoy the subject. He is always prepared prior to the lesson, and I am certainly looking forward to having more lessons with David.

A Total Game-Changer for My Child’s SAT Prep. Truly Exceptional SAT Tutoring!

I can’t say enough good things about Dave. My daughter went into SAT prep totally stressed out and honestly pretty defeated after her first try. Working with David completely changed the game. He breaks things down in a way that finally clicked for my daughter, and he uses test-specific tricks and strategies that you just don’t get from generic tutors. What really stood out is how patient and encouraging he is, my daughter actually enjoyed the sessions (a miracle in itself). Her confidence shot up, and so did her score… by almost 200 points. For this I will forever be grateful to David. If you want someone who genuinely knows the exam inside and out and actually connects with teens, David is your guy

Knowledgeable and Helpful Tutor.

I had lessons with David about the SAT math. I was struggling to fit into the time limit for all the tasks in the test before, but after just a few lessons with David it has become much easier! David gave me thorough lessons on each of the topics in the test and gave me some crucial tips for spending less time on each question and using Desmos more often in the test! Whenever I have problems with any of the tasks he always helps me resolve them. Lessons with David are always fun and go in-depth into each topic of the test, I highly recommend!

Experienced, Helpful, and Fun

David is an incredibly helpful and patient tutor. He explains difficult physics concepts in a way that actually makes sense, and he always takes the time to make sure I truly understand the material. Most importantly, he makes physics fun. I’ve learned more from him than I did from my physics teacher, and his support has made a huge difference in my confidence. I really appreciate the clarity he brings to every lesson. Highly recommend!

Knowledgeable and Helpful Tutor

David thought our Computational Linear Algebra. He went above and beyond to explain the topics and to cover a lot of concepts in a short time. He helped to prepare well for the test. David also came up with his own practice questions to simulate the tests and made sure my son was thorough enough to do very well on the test. I strongly recommend David if you need help with computational linear algebra.

Friendly and Easy Going.

David was a great guy and I always felt comfortable asking him to explain stuff I wasn't able to follow. He would also go into depth on stuff I was confused about and would always make sure I came out knowing what I was having trouble with or that I was comfortable with the topic.
