I received my Bachelors of Science in physics with a minor in mathematics from the University of Vermont in 2019. I then started my doctoral program with the intention of wanting to continue doing research, however as I progressed through I found myself becoming increasingly interested in pedagogy and supporting undergraduates and now have fully accepted that teaching is far more gratifying and rewarding than research. I finished my Doctorate of Philosophy in Material Science and Engineering in December 2025. I took all of my chemistry and calculus courses at Pasadena city college. The teachers there were dedicated to education and the small non competitive classes gave me an incredibly solid foundation to go through my physics bachelors and on to my doctoral program.
Teaching the Properties of Materials Lab at UC Davis was a true joy for me. I always tried to cultivate a curious, collaborative, and fun environment in hopes that students would be able to see lecture concepts in action. Something that was hard for me as an educator was the class size. Giving thorough feed back on a lab report is critical for students wanting to learn about scientific writing and this was difficult to do in an 100+ student class. In fact it was impossible to give the type of in depth feed back that I felt each student deserved. This is one of the reasons I am so interested in tutoring. My experience with hosting office hours and giving detailed feed back on homework has lead me to seek out tutoring
In addition to formal academic experience I have taught several free classes for adults and children, on topics like gardening, canning food, and quilting. I devised the curriculum for these courses my self and adjusted my methods mid class to accommodate the needs of the students. I believe flexibility and receiving critical feedback are crucial to a successful tutoring session as well as TONS of preparation. I am also dedicated to studying pedagogy and discussing tactics with other educators.
