Kelsey has been a middle school math teacher in San Francisco since 2013. Former positions include 5 - 8th grade Math Teacher at San Francisco Friends School, Convent Elementary School, and Lydian Academy. Before that, she was involved in environmental education on the east coast having graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BS in engineering. She taught math largely through inquiry and problem based learning and works this philosophy into tutoring, but will always tailor her sessions to fit the needs of her students and the curriculum they are learning from. She believes the best way to learn math is to have a student tinker with a problem first BEFORE guiding them. This allows them the chance to dig deep into the math and discover knowledge on their own. Tutoring time together involves writing and calculating math, but also a lot of math talk which includes posing and answering questions, discussing the "why", and explaining/understanding her student's problem solving process. She loves the opportunity to work one-on-one with students!
