Why should you consider me as your personal English writing tutor and coach? I have years of experience as a writing teacher at the college level so I know what professors expect. In addition, I have made my living writing for businesses large and small so I know how to help you put your best foot forward in a work or professional setting. Lately, I have been helping AP English students decipher difficult literary texts and master the form of writing synthesis and rhetorical analysis responses. I also help college students applying to graduate and professional programs to improve their personal statements.

Will you be comfortable and happy working with me? To find out, we'll begin with a 30 minute free get-acquainted consultation where we will discuss your learning goals and objectives for improving your writing and grammar skills. The next step will be a writing assessment to identify two specific areas for improvement that are likely to have the quickest and highest impact.

Once we agree to work together, I require a 24-hours notice if you need to cancel an appointment.

A little more about me. From seventh grade, where I learned to diagram sentences, I have loved English grammar and the power of words. My own education consists of a BA in English from UCLA and an MA in English and community college teaching credential from San Jose State University (SJSU), where I tutored in the writing center. I have taught writing and grammar at SJSU and several community colleges and loved it. In addition, I edit and write professionally in areas of technology.

For 5 years I taught English composition courses to hundreds of students, which involved teaching grammar. To spark an interest in grammar, I invented a popular classroom team game that I called "Grammar Baseball."

Kind Tutor Who Allows Students to Set the Pace

I used the instant book option through Wyzant for the first time and was matched with Nancy. I was thoroughly impressed with Nancy's ability to assist my son with understanding an English assignment on short notice. Especially because the reading used language from the 1600's and was not a well-known reading. Nancy did a great job of breaking down the assignment into smaller chunks, helping with vocabulary, and comprehension all while maintaining a warm demeanor and not even the slightest hint of frustration or impatience.
