My favorite thing about tutoring is the much smaller 1-on-1 environment it provides. It allows me to focus 100 percent of my attention on making sure a student is understanding material instead of just moving along with the lecture or class. I can sense if students are picking up on the topics or struggling to grasp the material. I can find the cracks in the foundations as students explain their work to me and build a plan to shore up the foundation and create a strong understanding of the current material before trying to push into newer, more challenging material. This skill allows me to make sure students are engaging and mastering material instead of simply memorizing it.
I have been teaching organic chemistry to college students for 7 years. I write and grade exams, know the structure of undergraduate organic chemistry lectures and textbooks, and can pick up from any point in the semester. I can supply resources such as worksheets, practice exams, and lecture videos to help students grasp difficult concepts. I have been tutoring organic chemistry for years and understand the structure of both community college courses and the 4-year college programs. I can make sure students who are planning to transfer to a 4-year program are ready to meet those expectations and feel confident in their organic understanding.
