Hi! I'm Maye (she/her). Thanks for taking a moment to read my profile. Below you will find info on my background, qualifications, and some extra info on the IB Math and AP Calculus programs.

Background:
I graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Wright State University in 2014. Since graduating, I have traveled extensively throughout southeast Asia working as a STEM educator teaching engineering, science, and math to students of all ages. My favorite subject is mathematics, especially high school and college level math. In early 2020, I relocated back to the US due to the pandemic and am currently located in Downey, CA (20 mins east of downtown LA).

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program:
I have over eight years of experience teaching Math SL and HL topics and I have prepared many students for their final DP Math exam. The final Math SL/HL exam covers topics from Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Differential Equations, Vectors, Statistics, Probability, and much more.

Internal Assessment (IA)
I am also available to help out with the Internal Assessment (IA) for mathematics. I have helped students in all stages, from coming up with an initial idea for their paper to extending their papers to meet page requirements.

Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus AB/BC:
Calculus AB and BC are much smaller in scope (in comparison to IB Math), just covering the topic of Calculus. With that being said, Calculus BC spends considerable time on Infinite and Power Series which IB does not. Other smaller topics covered in the BC curriculum are length of a curve, Polar Curves, and Improper Integrals.
AB and BC also emphasize the MVT, IVT, EVT, and Riemann sums which are also smaller topics and quite easy to learn.

My language abilities:
I have started my study of Literary Chinese and am preparing to do a master's program (taught in Mandarin) in the near future. In total, I have been studying Mandarin for over 7 years. My fluency is HSK 5-6.

C exposes enough of the way that computers think as well as having a simple, easy-to-understand syntax that makes it a wonderful introduction to computer programming for any age. I've been helping students with C for over 8 years now.

Knowledgeable and very helpful tutor

Maye helped my daughter a ton!! She is a junior in high school and needed help in algebra 2 last minute. Not only did Maye truly help her, but they made sure she understood the content and could actually do the work on her own. My daughter said she wants to work with Maye again and that she was very relieved to find a tutor that finally gets it. We are both so glad Maye was available tonight.
