Bio

I’m Joyce and I graduated from UC Berkeley (Class of 2024) in 3 years, earning a B.A. in Psychology (with honors) and Cognitive Science, along with a minor in Clinical/Counseling Psychology. In high school, I graduated at the top of my class of over 600 students with a 4.65 weighted GPA. My academic background reflects my passion for helping students succeed and develop effective, confident study strategies.

I’m Joyce and I graduated from UC Berkeley (Class of 2024) in 3 years, earning a B.A. in Psychology (with honors) and Cognitive Science, along with a minor in Clinical/Counseling Psychology. In high school, I graduated at the top of my class of over 600 students with a 4.65 weighted GPA. My academic background reflects my passion for helping students succeed and develop effective, confident study strategies.

I have tutored since middle school and I know how to adapt to different students to help them effectively learn and absorb the material. Besides helping my students grasp material, I love connecting with my students and acting as a mentor for them. In addition to having expertise in various subjects, I am also extremely sociable and will do everything I can to help my students feel more confident before the next exam. Whether that be pinpointing strengths and weaknesses, or providing personalized practice outside of class, I am extremely flexible and will adapt to my student's needs.

In high school, I received A's in Pre-Calc, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and AP courses (Calc AB/BC, Chemistry, U.S. History). I also scored a 790 on SAT math.

I am a national AP Scholar and have received 5s on AP Psychology, AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC, AP Chemistry, and AP U.S. History.

In college, I received A's in Math 1A/ Math 1B (calculus equivalents at UC Berkeley) and A's in psychology courses (biological, social, personality, clinical, cognitive, developmental).

I specialize in Algebra I/II, Trigonometry, AP Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB/BC, standardized math prep, AP Psychology, and AP U.S. History, among other subjects. I have not only helped my past students reach their desired academic goals (increase in letter grade, 5 on AP exam, etc.), but I have also tutored students of all ages ranging from elementary students to adults.

I also received a 5 in Calculus AB/BC on the AP test. At Berkeley, I had to take Calc 1 and 2 as a prerequisite again, where I also received As. I have helped the majority of my students receive a 5 on the AP exam, with over 75% of my calculus students receiving a 5 on the 2025 AP Calc AB/BC AP exam. I also provide extra practice for my students outside of class. I have extensive knowledge in both levels of calculus and I look forward to working with you!

Throughout the Semester she has helped me become more confident and succeed in AP psychology. She helped to increase and retain my knowledge by creating practice quizzes for me and creating summarized notes. After every lesson I feel more prepared and confident in my knowledge.

Highly Recommending Joyce H as an AP Psychology Tutor

Joyce really did wonders for my understanding of the course. Beginning the course, I initially felt confused by the wording of AP language, how to study for the class, and remembering the vast amount of content covered in each unit. However, once I began working with Joyce, not only did my grade in the class skyrocket, but so did my understanding and enjoyment of the subject. She provides incredible study resources, and adjusts her lesson techniques to best suit the student. While I usually have fairly debilitating testing anxiety, working with Joyce reduced that anxiety so much so that I just about looked forward to taking exams in the class. My average test score went from a 70% to a 95%-100%. I scored a 5 on the AP Psych Exam, and truly have Joyce to thank for her tutoring, willingness, kindness, and guidance.

Excellent Tutor

Joyce helped me achieve 5s on the AP test for both AP precalc and AP psych. We did a lot of practice problems and for everything I didn’t know how to do, she guided me through the problem and explained how to do it. In precalc, all the difficult graphing and the different types of functions, she helped me understand well. And for psych, Joyce helped me remember the endless definitions and explained to me what each of them meant. Guiding me on how to apply them to different scenarios was a big help. Joyce’s tutoring was an amazing experience and helped me learn a lot.
